It’s been a while since he’s been up here, and even longer since he’s been up here with her.
“It was a fun summer vacation, wasn’t it, Kyou-kun?” she enquires happily. He sits on her left hand side, can see the bandage that hides the scratch Akito left on her cheek. He clenches his fist.
“I guess.” he mumbles. How can she say that when she got hurt? When Akito came and ruined the trip for everyone?
“It’s our last summer vacation, so I’m glad we went to the beach! And now I know how to swim!”
He smiles softly but remains silent.
In this moment, he realises he is beginning to resent his love of open spaces, of high places, of all the things he will miss when he’s in that cell, the one that exists especially for someone like him.
(and her, he will miss her most of all)
He wants to memorise everything: the moon, the stars, the breeze on his face, this wonderful sense of freedom.
He catches a glimpse of her in the corner of his eye and adds this image to his memory. The way her hair catches the light, the way her eyes sparkle with joy, the way her lips turn up in a smile so sincere, he’s sure the mere memory of it will warm him when he is alone.
It’s the last day of summer vacation and he wants to remember this, everything about being here in this moment with her.
