[It's February 14th at 5am. Ciel slept at the Church for 4 hours before coming back to 1127 Taylor, vaguely apprehensive of what Mayfield may decide to pull on another American trademark holiday. ...The mail was already in? Tch, figures. It's obviously not going to be anything useful, so she had no reservations in opening it, after having changed ( Read more... )

[Archer too had received morning on the 14th. It was just that, unlike the majority of the town, he was in no rush to contact the other person. He was nothing like what he was in those memories and she would understand that considering the time they spent in Mayfield, unaware of what happened. Did that mean she forget too? Why were these memories all returned at once, without any real inclination. It was too bizarre for his liking. So, on the 14th, he did what he always did. Woke Rin up, have her yell at him for a good thirty minutes before shipping her off to school, go to his assigned job and then go back home ( ... )

[It was over before it began. There was nothing to understand because everything has already been understood. She knew that from day one, and now, he has also sufficiently matured to come to the same conclusion ( ... )

Yeah.

[That was all he felt he could say under these circumstances. No witty remarks or snide comebacks. It was just a solemn reply. A rarity for Archer, who almost enjoys being as rude and crass as he is to people.]

Mind if we talk.

Not at all. Is here fine, or do you have somewhere else in mind?

[Trolling him was her favorite pastime, but she'll refrain tonight.]

fatesjanitor February 18 2011, 05:16:08 UTC
No, here is fine.

...Can we talk inside the church however? No one is in there at this late of night. [It's strange. He never really liked churches. He always thought it was just because of Kotomine Kirei and how he treated Rin. But, was it because of Ciel?]

If you'd like.

[Brushing a loose bang back behind her ear, she hops off the tip of the cross to land on the roof, and two faint 'thumps' later, effortlessly comes back down to ground level.

She leads the way in, not crossing stares with him, but her demeanor stays the same.]

Is the main sanctuary okay? ...There are other rooms deeper in, too.

[The second part was more quiet; almost as if it was really a stray thought to herself, and not meant to be communicated.]

fatesjanitor February 19 2011, 01:13:35 UTC
I'm fine with going in deeper, if you feel it would be more private.

[He doesn't notice the hush second part and just believes its part of what she was communicating. His thoughts were more closed off, but he was simply unfocused right now. Another rarity for him, as the Archers are always expected to be vigilant and alert at every notice.]

Mm.

[A small nod, and she'll lead the way into the inner sanctuary at the back. ...Probably an unnecessary precaution, given the time and place, but... chalk it up to old habits.

There are only two rows of pew here, and she'll stop by the altar. Not completely turning around to face him just yet, but she'll speak out now. Her tone is mild and even, like always.]

It's unlike you to look preoccupied. What's on your mind?

[He stops as soon as she gets close to the altar, but does not sit on the pews.]

I'm sure you know, Ciel.

[She turns around to face him.] With you? I wouldn't want to presume. Doesn't a Counter Guardian's memories get blurry with each summon? You could be talking about anything.

Heh. Fair enough.

It's about what happened on the 14th. [The memory returns that is.]

...Mm. [She slumps her shoulders a little as she leans against the rails surrounding the altar, almost as if in defeat.]

Did you remember something significant?

[A small sigh.]

Not really. Just ancient history, buried away many years ago. For you, it probably isn't as ancient.

expiatrice February 19 2011, 09:50:20 UTC
It's been a few years.

[A small and girlish smile. Derp. Doesn't look as plastic like her usual ones - he might - should be able to tell.]

You've changed a lot, though it's not really wholly unexpected. [As much of a "I told you so" sort of deal this is, there's no way that she can bring herself to say anything remotely like that out loud.

It's too sad to even think it that way.]

[He can tell and he returns it with a small jaded one of his own.]

I wish I could say the same for you. You're just the same as always. [Though, admittedly, he likes that a little. At least one of them has to stay the same, right?] Time changes people and I've been subjected to an amount of time I don't fully recall.

expiatrice February 19 2011, 10:30:45 UTC
I think I was done changing a long time ago, so that's probably why. [...And now he partially knows why. Aha... So much for having been able to hide that much during back then.]

Time hasn't been kind to you. [An understatement, but this small talk remains familiar, and what's familiar would invoke comfort.]
