Wrote up a little blurb for Bring on The Batman's couple section.
Gabrielle started working in Arkham when she was around 25, after GothCorp shut down (The Big Heat). What little accountable authority left had put in for certain employees to be transferred to work in the Asylum, especially those who, like Gabrielle, worked in their chemical sector. She was placed under the mentorship of Theo Marshall, and eventually seduced him (whether intentionally or not), helping to secure her position in Arkham as well as gaining some mob protection from romantic association. Mostly because Thodys was sure he was going to marry her. (He never achieved this goal, but continued to try right up to her death.)
She fell pregnant and gave birth to Leanne (named by Thodys for his maternal grandmother) after the spree of criminal Rumor kidnappings, during which Theo kept her locked in his house out of desperation to keep both her and the unborn baby safe. He had to threaten and sweet talk her into keeping the child, becoming a single parent after the baby was born, allowing Gabrielle to be free of any obligation. She was also kept locked in the house during the events of The Joining, which strained the relationship somewhat, especially since his attention was divided between her, his child, and the mob.
They completely fell apart after she snapped a year or so later, when she was around 30 and Thodys 40. He took on an accomplace role out of a want to remain close to her, loosing whatever criminals she desired from Arkham. After she was caught by the Bat the first time, four years later (34), Thodys patched her up and smuggled her out of Arkham and to his house when a guard accidentally shot her after being startled. He hid her away again when Croc broke her hip after tossing her into a brick wall three years later (37) in the middle of an escape from Batman. After these incidents, she began hiding out in his house from habit, if on the run or injured. The relationship became more of an occasional 'fling'.
When Saws died years later, at 45, Thodys became minorly depressed. He quit at Arkham and began working for Thorne full time, mostly on account of the mob boss' ailing health. He still needed to work up enough courage to tell Leanne about her mother, and was distracted by her consorting with the son of the Scarecrow.
