[Hoffman tried to make a post earlier (some of you might have seen that) but he was too stoned in too much pain and ended up helped out by Rex. Now however he's sitting in the infirmary surrounded by people thinking ( Read more... )

I think at this point even those of us who aren't American would appreciate a Thanksgiving party.

...I didn't even think about the non-American issue.

A party is a party. And ought to be welcome by everyone after the last month, regardless of where they're from.

We used to have a fellow here, name of Swing, who was from a planet that had its own seasonal holidays that had some striking similarities to our own. At Christmas he used to get quite upset about the holiday that was quite clearly the "roundworld" version of Hogswatch, which was his winter holiday.

[He might preen a bit]

I'll have to talk to the Kitchens and generate some interest.

[he pauses] Hogswatch.

Well, I'm willing to help, anyway.

Hogswatch. No, I don't know either. I'm certain there's a perfectly good explanation for it; I just never knew the man well enough to talk to him about it.

Good because...I've never planned a party. Just sort of attended and been the go-to guy for getting supplies. Parties were my sister's department-and a couple of my squad's too. I'll start putting feelers out. Surprises or no surprises.

[Heh] The only hogs I've watched were guests at a super bowl party.

Where are you from?

I'm good at small dinners and that sort of thing, but bigger parties ... there are others here who are better at that than I, most likely.

I'm from London, originally. [More or less.]

...Small dinners from an English broa-

Small dinners would be classy. I'm used to loud parties. My sister liked everything from small themed dinners to big shindigs-

Which would you recommend? I picture London I picture small dinner parties. But you travel?

[Is that a snicker there? Maybe.]

For this, I think we need a proper party. A big one.

And yes, I travel a lot. Lately I've been spending a fair amount of time in Eastern Europe-before I came here, I mean.

[Hoffman grins at that. It might look frightening-briefly] I know exactly who to talk to about that.

[pause] That's...

I have no idea where that is. Ignorant American here.

Russia, Poland, that sort of thing. I suspect when I get back after I'm done here, I may need to move on to the Middle East for a little while, though. I tend to go where the trouble is.

[Laughter. Not that she's making fun of you, Hoffman; it's just funny.]

No and no. Just a meddler who gets bored easily.

In a good way.

[beat] What do you do?

I'm a time traveller.

[Once upon a time he would have laughed it off, called her crazy or, (depending on the situation) arrested her and taken her to bellevue. All of this however.]

...How is it?
