Cockroaches: fight + clean: help?

Hello,

I have a GROSS and huge problem and I figured it might be a good idea to ask for help in this community as I think that some of you might have experienced the same already.

Yesterday when I came home from work and turned on the light I saw a COCKROACH suddenly disappearing between some boxes and plastic bags (tea, noodles).
So disgusting!!
Actually it was the first time in my life that I ever saw a roach!
I'm originally from Germany and cockroaches are very rare there.
That's why I have NO IDEA how to deal with them!!!

I tried to kill it yesterday night, but it was too fast for me! In the end it was hiding in a huge teabag box and so I just grabbed the whole box and put it onto my balcony.
I made sure that the roach is still in the box and then closed my balcony door.

I'm not exactly sure how the roach came into my apartment, but I had my balcony door open the whole day (of course I use a mosquito net), but as the taifun was coming there was quite a strong wind. Maybe the roach was just looking for shelter?

My apartment is SUPER TINY! Only one tiny room. So my bedroom is also my kitchen etc. I'm pretty sure I would have noticed earlier if there had been any roaches!
I always come home late from work (after 22pm), so it's dark and when I turn on the light I might have catched roaches earlier if there really were some.
What do you think?

Now there's the excrement of that one roach also. I'm not sure how to get rid of it.
I didn't know anything about roaches, so I researched it a little bit.
Apparently they are quite dangerous as they carry viruses for some really dangerous diseases such as Hepatitis C and such .....

I also read somewhere that you should squish them as they might carry eggs.
Good thing I didn't squish the one I found.

I also had roach traps at home.

That's what I'm using right now. Do you have any better ideas?

I heard it's a good idea to cover any drains. It's a little bit difficult to cover the drain of the washing machine. Any tips what I could do?
I suspect the air-conditioner, but there's no way I can cover it as I'm using it almost every day!!

Also, there's not really much "open" food in my apartment. 2 packs of open noodles and green tea and that's it. Everyting else is still sealed or in the fridge.
I don't know if roaches can eat through plastic wraps like those of noodles or cereals?
I threw away all the noodles and the tea that was open already and the stuff that was still closed I put into the fridge to freeze it for a few days (although I heard that at least the eggs can survive even -22°C?! ... GAH!!!)
Furthermore I keep my food garbage on my BALCONY in a closed bucket!! No food garbage IN my apartment. All my fruit and vegetables are in the fridge.

I didn't have much time to clean today and I first wanted more information.
I'm gonna have a HUGE CLEANING DAY during the weekend and want to get ready for that.
Any good disinfection or cleaning utensils you can recommend????

I couldn't sleep the whole night at ALL!!!
I was afraid a roach would crawl into my bed! ;_______________________; They're so gross!!!

The one I saw was not so big, probably not grown-up yet? It was half a finger-long, I guess.

Any help is highly appreciated!!
Thanks so much for your help!!!
