I've been here a while, but I don't think that I've posted before. Right now I'm teaching in Japan and my year-long contract is about to end. As I look at the future, I can see clearly that I don't want to come back to this same business, but I do want to continue to teach in this area. Right now, I'm living in Saitama and working for a private church-school. It was set up through some friends and they've basically taken care of everything to this point: Finding the job, getting me a visa, and an apartment.
Now, though, I want to strike out on my own, but I have no idea where to start. I hear that it's better to work for a school than for a company (ex. JET, NOVA, etc...) but I have no idea how I would go about getting a job there. Is there postings online? Should I just go in to a school that I walk by and ask if they need an English teacher? And how should I go about getting an apartment. I think at this point, I should mention that I have no Japanese ability and no money whatsoever for a down-payment, which I've heard is rather large.
If this isn't a good place to ask, I'm sorry, but at the moment, I'm at a loss. I really want to come back!
