Hello to all! This is my first time posting here. I'm an American teaching English in Japan, and for the most part, my students and my life are good. I have a few kids in my classes that hate all the teachers' guts, mine included. Part of the 'fun' we have in class is their English phrases used to make me go away. They've gone from repetitive ("See you! See you!") to rather creative ("Yellow card!" or "Don't touch me!" when I try to check their homework). Makes me wonder what their juku teachers are like.
The new wrinkle has been hearing the word 'bitch' behind my back. My first instinct was to turn around and yes, bitch them out. Instead I talked w/my teachers about hearing it, because my first response as an English speaker is to be EXTREMELY offended if someone calls me a bitch. It's a fighting word. Things are actually beginning to shape up--they haven't acted out anymore since a 3rd teacher comes to our class to supervise.
My question is: what are people's thoughts or responses when anyone who is NOT a native speaker of your language tries to cuss you out? (To be fair, these are kids I'm talking about.) Thanks.
