For a brief intro: I'm an American citizen, married to a German, living in the Netherlands. I don't see us moving to the USA anytime soon, if ever. I'm interested in finally obtaining German citizenship, mainly for the benefits of having an EU passport (I'll be able to visit Syria and other similar countries with fewer problems, and I won't have to pay as many fees as I currently do to live here in Holland. etc, some other things I can't think of right now.)
I would be interested to hear from any Americans here who have become citizens of another country. From what I understand from various US government sites, it is next to impossible to have dual citizenship in my situation.
So, if you are someone who has done this, has it been a huge benefit to you? Have you run into any problems when visiting the US?
Also (most importantly, actually), has anyone done it and regretted it? Would it be extremely difficult for me to 'go home again' if I/we decided we wanted to move back to the US?
Thanks! :)
