First Day of School all over Again

Zoe's first day of school was supposed to be Wednesday. We didn't put her in because we were expecting a response from the French School by no later than Wednesday. Thus the school shopping from the last post. On Wednesday afternoon the french school officially rejected her. We were very disappointed, but since we're not french, it had always ( Read more... )

Coming from Québec, I wish I had done the same thing with my girls. Trying to place 2 in the same grade was hard enough and the limited contact I did have with the French school was frustrating, so I didn't pursue it agressively enough. Good for you for sticking with it.

I just read your LJ. I didn't realize you've only been here a few weeks. I've only been here since March and I love it. Hope you will too.

are you in London? what did you wind up doing for school? how old are your kids?

I lived here 1996-2000, so I'm "back home"...
I do love London but the school thing has been such a hassle.

french school = frustrating
but hopefully worth it...

oh by the way, if you are francopone, or even just quebecois I suspect you would have priority (over people like us!) at the lycee if you are still interested...

We live in Hampstead. I have 6 year old twin girls who go to Southbank. So far it's been a great school but the second language they teach is German which is fine since their grandmother is German but does them no good should we move back to Montreal. As much as I wanted them to learn french, it boiled down to availability on short notice and it was just dumb luck that this school happened to be running two kindergarten classes last year and had the space. Since we're only going to be here a few years, I'm not going to have them change schools and I'll find another way to deal with the French issue.

Sounds like it's working out. It will be easy for them to learn French back in Montreal I'd imagine. I love Hampstead -- that's where I'd live in London if it were up to me! We're in Maida Vale now but probably moving down towards So Ken/ Fulham in light of the school situation...
