But what do you say to people who treat you like a moron for leaving your country?
This really gets on my nerves. I get responses ranging from incredulousness to sheer outright insults for leaving America to come to Britain. I am so sick of it. Usually, it's customers at work who say it, and being in the situation I am, I can't get an attitude about it like I'd really like to.
What do you say to the smarmy jerk who nods his head knowingly in that "uh huh, suuuure, whatever you say, dear" way that makes you feel put down and stupid?
What about the people who say "How could you leave American, I spent X time there for vacation and it's great!"? I reply with "yeah, but I lived there for 21 years, it's not as great as you think." But I just get the smarmy "uh, huh, suuuuree ::pats head:: whatever you say, dear" reponse as above.
And the insults. On more than one ocasion, I've been called daft, laughed at, and treated as though I were a moron for leaving. Why do these people not understand that the rosey oh-so-wonderful Friends-version of America is not the reality?
My reasons for leaving are varied, but dammit, they're good enough reasons for me to really not like "my" country.
Next time someone cops the "you're just too stupid/naive to know that America is teh roxx0rs bestest country in teh world!!one11!", does anyone have any suitable responses that might shut their traps, show them that I am indeed not a moron, but without being outright rude? (Usually it's customers, like I said, though I had a few co-workers at my last job who did this.)
Aargh! ::pulls out hair::
(I know, I know, just ignore them- but I'd rather put them in their place than ignore them. Yeah, I'm vindictive.)
Oh, and I posted before as
dafadddu, but am now using a different journal.
