really i think the two main problems are these: lack of morals and lack of listening skills.
think about it. is life just about getting what you want and doing everything for yourself? i understand that is a big part of it, but when you do something nice for someone and you receive looks of surprise, i don't think that's right. we shouldn't need reasons to be nice and compassionate or to just for once think about someone other than ourselves for a second. it's just the right thing to do. it shouldn't be so infrequent. it's understood that nobody's nice one hundred percent of the time (wow how weird would he/she be!) but an attempt for sixty or 70 percent could at least be made. no one cares about anyone else, and that's accepted. but really isn't the point of life to make a difference? to help and have an effect on other people? or even just one person? i don't know if that's the "meaning of it all" but i think it's an important component.
as for listening skills... well no one has them (myself included). if they did we'd have a lot less troubles and misunderstandings about the STUPIDEST things. everyone wants their way or no way at all. that's why wars are started. that's why people are needlessly killed (well, that and religion. but let's not get started on that aggravating subject). if we could truly hear what other people are saying instead of constantly talking about our own problems, maybe there'd be more focus on issues that are actually important. (and i know i should practice what i preach blah blah blah i'm just trying to make a point).
anyway. i'm tedious. here. i have a lot of time on my hands.
the united states of leland- amazing. thought-provoking and original. i bought it right after renting it. ryan gosling, don cheadle, and jena malone are all excellent, and there's even a part for pastor skip from saved! i was excited to see him, and almost ready to get my jesus on, but then the movie took a rather depressing turn when leland killed his retarded son. anyway, check it out! it's definitley one of my new favourite movies.
trainspotting- a lot darker than i thought it would be, but not bad. i love ewan mcgregor, and he was awesome as usual. mostly about heroin use (ack i had to look away) and a group of friends' experiences with it. freakiest scene: dead baby on the ceiling. AHH! (danny knows what i'm talking about).
sin city- SEE THIS MOVIE. holy smurf it is sooooooo wonderfully wonderful and pretty to watch and rather gory and the characters rock and the story is interesting and it's so. freaking. spectacular.
