Doctors play morals with women's healthcare

This scares the FUCK out of me. Even though I live in Texas, I live in a progressive enough city. If some pharmacist refused to give me birth control, I'd be hopping the counter and yelling at them. Some doctor tell me he won't give me EC, even though I'm sitting on a table after a rape exam? Hopefully I'd have the presence of mind to kick his ( Read more... )

I know in Washington doctors are legally required to give out Plan B when asked. Does this not hold true for Texas?

Wow.

Plan B is OTC for over 18 now, though behind the counter I think. So I would imagine they're legally required to give it... it just really pisses me off that these men (and women! WTF!?) could put women in such jeopardy.

Morning-after pill is standard in a rape kit in Houston. At least, that was my experience.

It's one of the few beneficial reasons for living in Houston - like I said, we seem to be a more progressive Texas City (we can't really afford not to be, I suppose; being the 4th largest city in the US). If we ever moved, I'm not sure there are many Texas cities on the list besides Austin that I'd consider, for that reason.

More than ever, we need a patients' bill of rights. And federal -- not state -- rules for the standard of care.

Since when is the potential fetus created during a rape more important than the woman who has been raped? And the other instances in the article? Ugh. Ugh. Ugh.

If pissed off airline passengers can create a bill of rights, I don't see why pissed off patients can't do the same thing!

Interesting, that's a good word for it! Things are pretty good, overall. Skimmed your journal - I so hear you, for needing to take care of yourself, and have people show interest in you, rather than always being the other way around. What sucks is when those people get pissed and see you as selfish, rather than "taking care of yourself." blargh! :)
