I posted a post about Erykah Badu's Allah tattoo blunder on ONTD:
http://ohnotheydidnt.livejournal.com/66908358.html I think living in Malaysia, these things are just a passing to me. The government always makes a fuss about these things because well, they are the government. There are people who agree and there are going to be people who don't agree.
The conclusion I get from the ONTD posts is that nobody likes to talk about religion. It's amusing, though. Bring up religion and we'll have a hate-fest.
I'm a Muslim and I am okay to say here that I am by no means super religious. I still believe in the religion because it is comfortable for me and there are aspects of it that brings me peace. The problem that I have with religion is the extreme rules. You can't do this, you can't do that. All these restrictions ruin religion for a lot of people and I'm not just talking about Islam.
Whenever people bring religion into a conversation, I usually just change the topic or just be like "Hmm, hmm. That's cool for you...". There's no point to argue. I think people who bring religion to make a point in a non-religious argument are weak and tacky. You can't win or lose in a religious debate.
Billions of people practice some kind of religion or believe in something. The greatest thing about is that, those beliefs are also influenced by the CULTURE that they live in. If you really look into it, some religions are actually modified and have different modes of perception. The teachings are sometimes different too.
For example, the Allah tattoo on Erykah Badu. I was taught tattoos are forbidden for Muslims. Why? Because He created us perfectly and we should not modify His creation. When we die and meet Him, we must have respect by presenting ourselves the way He created us because we are Muslims. I always just thought it meant - you are beautiful, you don't need to change a thing.
That being said, what I was taught is probably not what some other Muslims were taught. Islam is such a big religion, there's bound to be differences. That's why the Middle East is so fucked up. There are two sectors of Islam there and they are fighting. Same as Christianity.
Some Muslims believe they can get tattoos because it's okay for them. What you gonna do about it? Nothing! Just mind our own business.
The issue is when there's a discussion and everyone starts to vent THEIR personal perception of it. There's never going to be an agreement, not even amongst people with the same religion.
If you have a religion, just keep it to yourself and don't make fun of other religions if you don't want people to poke on yours. If you're an Atheist or whatever, keep it to yourself and don't make fun of religions because then you're just as bad as the crazy extremist.
I think the world is just lacking of respect. Religion is such a fickle subject. There's no actual right or wrong. The only solution to world peace is just too shut up and never bring it up.
