what a day

Jul 14, 2006 18:50

so something i've noticed this week is that when my day starts out shitty, it ends well.

and something else i've noticed is that when my day starts out shitty, i dont end up feeling shitty. in fact, i havn't felt like crap much this week. which is very strange.

moving on...

the morning incidents
the water incident
as i was putting on my shoes to jet out the door [lest i miss the bus], i noticed my socks felt wet. this was odd for two reasons: 1) i just put them on so i couldn't have sweat them up that quickly and 2) its been weeks since i shoved them into somebody's mouth. i felt the carpet and found it very damp. wet, even, and upon looking up i found the culprit: water leaking from the air intake on my apartment's air conditioner. the area around the ceiling-grate looked like wet paper. however, there was no time to waste so i wrote down the apartment's emergency situation (ie: maintenance/superintendent), grabbed my bag and bolted out the door.

downstairs, the bus still hadn't come and there were people out there (which means i can see when it's coming). i decided to try my luck with knocking on the office door, even though they dont open until 9:30am. lucky me, the maintenance guy - just the guy i was looking for - opened the door. i explained my situation and he said he'll fix it up for me. then he saw the bus out the window and told me to go, and go i did; i ran to that bitch.

the headphones incident
upon sitting down on the bus, i noticed my headphones - well, earbuds - were no longer in my hands. i checked around my neck, in my bag, in my pockets; pretty much everywhere but my asshole really. normally it'd be the first place to look but, you know, i was on a bus and it was much too early to put up with people staring at me funny.

the knee incident
i got off the bus at the mall to catch my next bus at the other end of said mall, as is the case every morning. while walking through the mall, my knee started to hurt. and not just normal bearable pain, no. it was really really painful. i stopped for a moment, thinking i just needed to crack it or stretch it a bit. nope, no dice. i also realized that the knee pain was synchronized with the pain in my heel, so i started walking on the front of my left foot. that helped alleviate the pain a bit until i had to run to the next bus. luckily i got a seat, and, well, it didnt hurt as much afterwards.

Incidents, revisited
the water incident, part II
I decided to call up people at my apartment to see if everything went okay with my leaky air conditioner and if i could get the carpet dried, as to keep mold from growing and to keep the centipedes away. The guy said he fixed it all up and that the ground was still damp, but he used a disinfectant to keep mold from growing. so now my only real worry is about centipedes, and it's not entirely unfounded; i used to walk into my apartment on a rainy day and take off my shoes, and merely the moisture from wet shoes on carpet was enough to draw out a couple of centipedes. i guess i should be glad i dont have to do any hardcore studying or assignments on the floor these days.. either way, the carpet is still very damp but everything is supposedly working fine.

so that's one down.

the headphones incident, part II
turns out i didnt lose them on the way to the bus but, in fact, tossed them onto the table when i ran back in to write down the apartment emergency number. whew.

that's two down

the knee incident, part II
my knee still feels a bit funny, but i bought some new shoes after work. for the very first time in the history of man, i bought the first pair i tried on. normally i go through at least 5 pairs, if not 10, before picking a shoe. this time? i walked in, grabbed a box with my size on it from my current shoes' brand (Saucony), and tried them on. the right-foot shoe fit perfectly, the left one was a bit tight but i leave that to the shoelaces. very comfortable. i bought them for $80 after taxes, which was higher than i was planning on going, but on the other hand my current shoes have lasted me since november 29th, 2003 (that's over 2 and a half years) and i use them for everything: walking, running, working, playing, etc. so an $80 investment for 2 years of service doesnt seem too bad to me.

the only thing is, i'm not sure i like the way they look. they seem to have that rounded sk8rshoe look that i despise. it's because the tongue is really friggin thick, and i can't remember if my current pair (or previous pair, i guess i should say) had a tongue that thick when i bought them. again, it might be the lacing, so i'll have to try them on again. if i dont like them, i can still take them back in the next 30 days as long as i dont wear them outside (or clean them up real good :D). this will hopefully fix my heel and knee pain, although i get the feeling my knee is royally fucked up due to that fall on the ice at the start of 2006.

anyway, that's three down.

in closing
everything that started out wrong this morning ended up getting fixed in one manner or another before i got home. i guess the key is to be patient and seek solutions, rather than worry, when things aren't going right; shit gone wrong can sort itself out on occasion, sometimes with a little push from your end.

rambling, boring, long
