my new monitor, i think
tomorrow morning i'm going to head out to FutureShop and yank this baby off the shelf:
however, i'm not too proud about how much it's going to cost me... that would be $380+tax. for $450+tax i could be getting a 22" screen that comes with a DVI cable, but its resolution is no higher; both run at 1680x1050.
Canada Computers has the 206BW up for $369. Futureshop will beat their price by 10% of the difference; $369 - ($380 - $369)*0.10 = $367.9 is what it will cost me before those bastard taxes. Canada Computers also has cheap DVI cables, something i can't seem to find elsewhere for under $50.
206BW (20") - $367.9+tax = $419.41
+ cheap DVI-I cable = $ 25.00
total = $444.41
226BW (22") - $450+tax = $513.00
difference = $ 68.59
normally, i would wait. i would wait and wait and wait, until the price point dipped below something a little more acceptable. even $320 before taxes would be nice. but i already did that with one monitor i really wanted and rather than going down it just dropped off the market entirely.
the reason for the rush? this monitor has become exponentially worse since the last time i whined about it. earlier in the evening it would randomly tint to a bright blue. the fix? loading my LJ page, which would bring it back to a better balance. but then it would just randomly happen again. it got really very aggravating, and i've elected that i can't use this damned thing anymore. it seems to be working okay for the moment, but i'm not holding my breath. and so, i need a new monitor.
... but i didnt want to pay THAT much :( sadly it's the only monitor worth buying that i could find. i'll have a 4 year warranty on it too (3 from samsung + 1 from visa) so at least i'm not throwing my money away, right? ... ......right?
anyway, im going to go out and buy it tomorrow. and if there's ANYTHING about it that i dont like, one tiny thing that pisses me off or if i find any imperfections, that motherfucker is going back. i'm not blowing $400 to get some mediocre piece of crap. if that's what i wanted i'd save half that money and buy a crappy entry-level LCD :x
EDIT: i forgot to mention something, which really was the basis for starting this entry in the first place. getting a thin monitor is going to case me problems. where are my toodles the turtle, eiffel towel keychain and devil ducky supposed to live now? the clock's up there too, but that doesnt matter as much. hmmmm :\ :/ :\ :/
