hi.
i went home last weekend. it was a fun little trip; my sister came down from montreal at the same time and my brother was around too. i finally got to go to the dentist on thursday, and i went to see 300 again in theatres. it's just as awesome the second time around. my mom baked me a carrotcake (woot!) and my grandpa bought me final fantasy xii. i didnt want to get it now because it's going to be $30 in four months, but he wanted to get me something and it's certainly cheaper than
a new hard drive or
monitor. we've got a new bird at home too. my parents bought it for my grandpa as a birthday present. it's a bright yellow canary, and the cat likes watching it... to the point where he'll meow and whine until you pick him up to see it. i suspect pedro's been wathcing sylvester/tweety cartoons. yes. cat. watching. tv. ok. right. RITALIN!
i'm currently on the lookout for a place to live in ottawa. looking mostly at 1 or 2 bedroom apartments preferably close to the uni. parents think it might be worthwhile to actually buy an apartment, but i'm still open to renting. so... any suggestions?
i'm also on the lookout for a new monitor. the one i've been using for ~6.5 years is kickin the bucket. apart from the fact that the right side of the monitor is a different tint than the left one and the bottom right corner flickers a bit, a couple of weeks ago i developed static scanlines that show up plain as day when anything dark-coloured is on the screen. i can see them on white too, but they aren't as distracting. yesterday morning i woke up to find that my monitor was looking a very blue hue. this morning it was even more blue. i know i can change my videocard's output to account for it, but why patch over a problem rather than just fix it?
at first i was bent on sticking with a 5:4 LCD, but i'll take a widescreen monitor as long as it can push at least 1680x1050. that means i'm pretty much limited to the 20"+ range. it seems every monitor either has a great refresh rate and crappy colour/contrast or vice versa, and everything in the middle does both at a mediocre level. poop.
i've started trying to sort my unsorted MP3s. I came to the realization that half of my ~11500 mp3s were currently in the unsorted directory and i hadn't done any sorting for almost 2 years.. a little overdue, eh? now i'm chipping away at it bit by bit and hope to be done sometime in mid 2008...
my watch randomly started working again yesterday. i pushed the adjustment dial thingy back in and it started ticking away as if nothing was wrong. but it died again today. bah!
oh hey, i forgot about this: FUCK CANADA POST and FUCK VONAGE too. CP may have lost my package that was heading to vonage, so that i could be refunded $192.58. but if fucking vonage didnt fucking suck so much godamned greasy horse cock i wouldn't be $192.58 in the hole in the first place. i really do think im going to call them and tell them to shove it, and maybe try my luck with something like Primus which is cheaper -- why pay more for such a shitty service? i don't think it could be worse.
