that's also pretty mcuh all i listened to on my way home from Toronto today, i think? there may have been more that i do not recall, since i dont think that's enough to take up a 1.5~2hr car ride. anyhow....
I'm in Peterborough for the "holidays", and i've been here for 3 days or so. So far, I've watched a couple of Bond flicks with my brother, played some guitar with my sister (first time ever jamming with someone; rather fun!), clocked in a couple of hours of videogaming, did a lot of useless thinking, ate tons, and saw my cousins a couple of times.
Today (the 25th, christmas or what have you) was spent in Toronto visiting some family friends. or rather, parents' friends. I think we went to their house last year too. Basically, I'm considered one of the older people so I'm not stuck playing with the kids and thus sit with the men (dun dun dun!). So what do you get when you put 10 grown men whose origins are planted firmly in volatile soil in the same room? naturally you end up with big political discussions, religious debates, and lots of very neat/interesting stories about the passport office. some of these men have got real nuts to do some of the things they did to get out of the country. incredible stuff. one of them got into a huge shouting match with a passport officer, something you NEVER do if you ever want your shit cleared. and yet here he is, some 5000km from home and unscathed. impressive.
my food schedule has been really weird. when i lived in ottawa, i completely messed up my eating schedule by accidentally forgetting lunch every day. this went on for a few weeks. finally i managed to wean myself off of 2-meals-a-day and back onto 3. now i'm home, where i wake up at 10:30~11:30am, eat breakfast, then have dinner at 5 or 6pm. .... where'd lunch go again? dammit! then again, i've been eating so very much that lunch is pretty much an obsolete meal. i know it certainly isn't healthy but... well, i guess that's just how it's working out for now.
tomorrow morning I am leaving for Sarnia. I was originally supposed to head down there on the 29th, a Friday, to find a place to live. this is specifically the friday before the new year, so fat chance finding a spot. during the car ride home today, it was decided that we'll move the hotel reservation to tomorrow and go then instead. the only thing left to straighten out is my booking of the elevator to move furniture out of my apartment in ottawanker; it was originally booked for the 27th, a wednesday. however, if we dont find a place for me to live by the end of tomorrow afternoon, there's no way in hell we can make it back to ottawa for 2pm on the 27th. so either this is going to be really messy or really stressful. or both. heh. well, whatever. it'll all be over in a matter of days. i'll just sit back to see how it all unfolds... the only thing i'm unsure about is whether i'll be coming back to peterborough or anywhere after going to sarnia tomorrow. i'm hoping they let me go back to my apartment to move furniture out, since both of my computers are still up there and, hell, one of them is still on. there's a lot of wiring and i have to know where all of it, each and every little connector, ends up going. call me anal but i dont like having to shell out $30 because someone couldn't be assed to remember what box the S-Video cable is in.
i started Dragon Quest VIII yesterday. I bought this game a month and a half ago because it came with the Final Fantasy XII demo and for some reason I decided spending $30 on that game+demo was a better deal than just spending $60 on FF12. Then again, i've been eyeing DQ8 since the summertime and it recently went Greatest Hits, so i nabbed it. anyhow, I started it. It's a game produced by Level 5, the same people who put together Dark Cloud 2. What a gem. I can't wait to get deeper into this game; so far the first hour has been surprisingly entertaining. Then i wandered into a cave and got my ass handed to me. battles are hard in this game :( not the individual battles so much as the fact that there's a lot of them and you only start out with like 20hp. BLAH. i shall pwn it soon enough! just you wait and see! in other news, i've decided Xenosaga is boring because of its utter lack of a background music soundtrack. sure, i may be 16 hours or so into the game, but every time i pick it up to play i just... get.... bored. i keep telling myself it'll get better but at this point i think i'm almost half way through and still no aspect of the storyline has latched onto me as is normally the case with these games. i'm sure i'll have a better chance to sit down and kick that game's ass during the work term at some point.
