"He's not angry you kissed him." Minseok stops Jongin just as he's coming out of the bathroom. The taller of the two quickly looks around to check if anyone had heard them.
"Don't bother. They all know something's up between you two." Minseok's face is a stern one and it makes Jongin nervous. He has never been good with the older guy, and just a tiny part of him wonders if it's because he's Luhan's most trusted buddy. "Don't look so dejected Jongin. He's just sad you took advantage of the situation."
"I know. I'm an idiot, Hyung. I don't know how to fix it when he's avoiding me-"
"He's not avoiding you. You're the one avoiding him."
Jongin shuts his eyes. Minseok gives him a light pat in the back.
"Go, he's waiting in your room."
Jongin opens the door and sees Luhan standing in the middle of it.
The man has his hair still damp from his shower and Jongin stops himself from any inappropriate thoughts.
Not now. He reminds himself. He has lots of repairing to do and doesn't need to add on to the list. He prepares himself for the worst as he steps inside.
"I'm sorry Hyung." Jongin says, announcing his presence. He looks down, suddenly finding his toes very interesting against the carpeted floor.
After a few moments of unbearable silence, Luhan finally speaks.
"Jongin-ah, I don't want things to go bad between us." Jongin knows Luhan is treading carefully, "We still have years to go together as a team and I don't want to lose you. I have lost too much along the way."
"I understand. I'm really sorry Hyung, for what I've done." For kissing you. "I'll just go-"
"Wait, hear me out first." The desperate voice halts him mid-sentence. Luhan makes Jongin look into his eyes. "I've always treated you like a brother that I never had. I like you. I really do." He heaves a sigh, "When you kissed me that night, I was confused. I thought I didn't, no, couldn't love you that way."
Jongin prides himself in his ability to stay calm in a situation like this. But what Luhan tells him next sends him into a whirlwind of emotions.
"But now I'm not really sure. Because over the past week, I realised how you've always been next to me, supporting me, even before we debut. I haven't given it much thought before...but I think...I think if you let me try, I can love you back."
Jongin lets out a breath he didn't know he was holding. Anger, despair, hope. They eat into his heart and unleash his deepest desires, and the man finds himself unsure of what to do.
All he knows is that he doesn't want any love out of sympathy.
