i hope this is what you wanted omf asjhkdweiofoas i think i strayed from this a lot ; ;

When Joonmyun is three - "one more month until I'm 4!" he would insist - his timer whirs to life. His mother pulls him aside from his spot in the sandbox at the park and he pouts at his half finished sand castle.
"Joonmyun-ah, I need to tell you something," his mother says softly, eyes darting around as if imparting a very important secret.
This catches his attention and he looks at her imploringly, lips trembling as he tries to contain his curiosity.
"Your timer has started! Do you see the numbers? It's counting down now!" she grins and gently lifts his wrist so the strip of metal is in front of his face. Joonmyun goes crossed eyed trying to focus on it, but truthfully, he is confused. He has known about the timer embedded in his wrist already, so he isn't too sure about the importance of it showing numbers instead of dashes.
As if she realises that he does not understand, she leans in closer and whispers into his ear, "You're going to meet a very special person once the timer reaches zero."
"Special person?" he echoes.
She nods seriously and smiles, "A very special person."

-

Those words flit around his mind all day, probably because there are less than fourteen days before he would meet his soul mate. He is twenty two now, but he still hasn't met his special person. Honestly, if you ask anyone they would tell you that he is a very patient and genial person, so waiting for this long must've been second nature. That is true, but if one considers the fact that by the time he was eighteen all of his friends had already found their soul mates, one can understand why he is so antsy.
Joonmyun knows that it will be worth it though, if Kris and Baekhyun are anything to go by. The pair met when Kris was 9 and Baekhyun was 7, bumping into each other at the playground. They have stuck together ever since.
"Joonmyun!" Luhan calls and jolts him out of his reverie, resulting in him slamming his knee against the table. Cursing under his breath, he clutches the throbbing limb and glares up at his friend, who has a laugh threatening to spill from his lips. The pretty male slips into the seat in front of him and eyes the open history textbooks in front of him, faking a yawn. Joonmyun hits the elder male and shakes his head sadly, no one in his group of friends, except maybe Yixing, understood his love for history.
"You don't know the true pleasures in life," he comments sadly, his features contorting to form a kicked puppy expression. Luhan flails and covers his face.
"Don't do that. The last time you did that I ended up going to a convention about the Trojan war with you. Worst day of my life," he sputters out, desperate to get Joonmyun to stop. The younger laughs and nods, features evening out to display a cheery smile.
"Why are you here anyway?" he asks. Luhan is never in the arts department of their university, instead sticking to the science section. Joonmyun can never fathom why anyone would want to major in biochemistry, but well, one man's food is another man's poison.
As if suddenly remembering his mission, Luhan grins widely and claps his hands.
"Do you want to come out with us tonight?"
A politically correct refusal is already at the tip of his tongue, he has to finish an essay about the Edo period in Japan - their current module and he still has mixed feelings about it - by the next day, but when he catches sight of his timer, inching its way to zero, he decides fuck it.
"Alright, where are we going?"
Luhan makes a noise of delight at the back of his throat and claps his hands.
"We're going over to Minseok's restaurant, he says that he has invented a plethora of delicious new dishes and he really wants us to try them!"
Joonmyun nods in agreement before shooing the elder away, he really has to get back to his essay because it isn't going to write itself.
( He definitely wishes it did though. )

The six of them are herded into a booth, with Minseok personally showing them the way.
"We're honoured to have the chef be our waiter," Kyungsoo teases and laughs, leaning back against Yixing, who simply adjusts his arm so that Kyungsoo would be more comfortable.
"Dinner will be served in a moment," Minseok replies, playing along with Kyungsoo, an impish smile tugging at the corners of his lips.
"Hurry," Baekhyun whines and bounces in his seat, hoping that his hunger is conveyed. Kris merely pulls Baekhyun back and pats his head, which seems to be enough distraction from his hunger.
"Take your time Minseok," Luhan replies, before a devilish grin appears on his face.
"We can wait until Baekhyun starves to death before you serve us," he whispers, mock-conspiratorially. Everyone bursts into laughter, even Kris, while Baekyhun huffs and crosses his arms, glaring at everyone.
"I hate you all."
"Love you too," Luhan shoots back saccharinely, batting his eyelids.
Minseok chuckles before taking his leave, hand brushing lightly against Luhan's neck - Joonmyun tries hard to not notice the shudder takes place after that - promising to be back with the food as soon as possible.
They start chatting amongst themselves about their current workload, Joonmyun getting into a heated discussion with Yixing and Kyungsoo over the pros and cons of the industrial revolution, the former having the strong belief that it is a great thing that it happened since it gave rise to a variety of art movements, while the latter protested against the harm to the environment that it inevitably caused.
As the discussion soon phases into a debate between the couple beside him, with Joonmyun as an observer, he can't help feeling a little wistful as he watches them. He would be lying if he said that he had never been jealous, it is kind of hard not to be since he is the only one in his group who hasn't met their soul mate yet.
( It gets especially bad on Valentines' day, but he digresses. )
"How many more days is it?" Baekhyun asks, jerking him from his daydream about finally meeting his special person. He chances a glance down at his timer and feels sick.
"Thirteen days," two hours and six minutes, he completes in his head.
Baekhyun gasps and claps, a radiant smile on his face.
"You never told me it was going to be this soon!"
"What's going to be this soon?" Luhan chimes in, head resting on Baekhyun's shoulder.
"Joonmyun's finally going to meet his soul mate," Baekhyun answers, eyes still shining brightly. Joonmyun feels embarrassed, his friends have been waiting for this as long as he has, that he feels kind of bad for ever feeling jealous about them.
"Aw, I was hoping to get you to join Minseok and I. I had so many plans for what we could do in bed," Luhan sighs forlornly. Joonmyun takes that back, he does not feel bad for them at all.
"I wonder how your Minseok feels about this," a clear voice remarks dryly. They turn to the door and Joonmyun can't help but burst into a fit of laughter when he sees the dark haired male standing at the doorway, plates of food in hand.
"I was kidding Minseok!"
Everyone else joins in, laughing at the way Luhan scrabbles to form an excuse, while Minseok merely pats his head patronisingly and sets the dishes down on the table.
"Tuck in!" he announces with a wide grin, ignoring the sudden hug he is pulled into. The rest of the evening soon passes by in a flash, everyone wrapped up in Minseok's cooking.
As they part for the night, Joonmyun can't help himself and chances a glance at his watch. Twelve days twenty three hours and fifty seven minutes to go.

Joonmyun is typing furiously at his laptop, he has to finish the presentation on the Sengoku period by that day to send it to his professor. If he doesn't get it to him in time, he would have to present to the class first and although he doesn't think he is that bad at public speaking, if given a choice he would try and avoid it to the best of his ability. He sighs and rolls his shoulders, trying to get rid of the tension in his muscles. That is when he sees it.
The timer which previously read 03 days 5 hours 56 minutes now shows -- days -- hours -- minutes.
Joonmyun thinks his heart stopped. He understands why his timer only showed dashes until he was three, his soul mate hadn't been born yet. So for it to show dashes again-
Joonmyun stomps that thought down. He is flabbergasted and he sits there in his seat, simply staring at the offending piece of metal nestled in his skin. He is numb, he isn't sure what to feel because he had so much hope, hope that he would finally be able to meet his other half, his kindred spirit, his soul mate.
And then, there are numbers again. 23 days 14 hours 28 minutes. The numbers stay for a while before promptly being replaced by dashes. Joonmyun groans and rubs his face, this is way too taxing for his poor heart. He watches the numbers and dashes interchange so quickly that his head starts to hurt. He sighs and rests his head on the table, eyes trained on the jumping numbers. Just as abruptly as it had started jumping around, it stopped.
28 days 19 hours 03 minutes.
'Oh well,' Joonmyun thinks to himself. 'I've waited for so long, what's another twenty eight days.'

-

Joonmyun shivers from the biting wind and ducks into the nearest cafe he can find. He is sure his lips are blue right now, he left his scarf at home and he is regretting it immensely. His only solace is the fact that the cafe is warm and toasty. He inches closer to the heater at the side, under the guise of studying the menu.
"Welcome! How may I help you?"
He smiles at the barista - he is a cute kid, taller than him but much lankier, face impassive, reminds him of Kris really, but then he smiles and oh - before placing an order for a cup of hot chocolate. It is late and he is definitely not taking the risk to ingest caffeine. Joonmyun takes a seat at the table nearest to a heater, enjoying the warm air blowing on him greatly. He pulls his coat off, whimpering at the lack of warmth the coat provided, sacrificing comfort in favour of warmth. Reassuring himself that he will warm up quickly with the tepid air forming somewhat of a cocoon around him. He pauses.
00 days 00 hours 00 minutes.
He blanches. 'It could've been anyone!' he shrieks in his mind. He still vaguely remembers seeing numbers before stepping into the cafe, but really. Joonmyun discretely glances around the cafe and sees three couples - he immediately rules them out - and two other stragglers like him. He hasn't even considered the staff that work here.
He feels like crying. All his life he has been waiting for that special moment and yet he blew it in such an anti-climatic way that really, even he doesn't have words for it.
"One hot chocolate?"
Joonmyun looks up and smiles wryly, nodding his head in thanks. And then he proceeds to grab the barista's wrist.
00 days 00 hours 00 minutes.
He looks up.
The barista seems stunned as well, staring at his wrist in disbelief.
"Hello, my name is Kim Joonmyun. I believe we will be getting to know each other really well," he rushes out breathlessly, eyes shining because he has finally found him.
"Oh Sehun. It's great to meet you."
