"Daddy promises to come home earlier from now on," he says, looking at the door of his son's room, before he turns around and walked to his own room. With aching muscles and a tired mind, he goes to bed and dreams of taking his son on an awesome trip to Disneyland.
The next morning, Chanyeol wakes up to his son's laughter. As he enters his balcony, his dressing gown wrapped securely around himself, he spots him playing with his nanny outside in the garden. He watches them chasing each other for a while, before he goes back to his room to fetch his clothes and takes a shower. After readying himself and taking a last look in the mirror, he heads down to the garden. Just as he steps outside, his son spots him and runs towards him with open arms. Chanyeol bends down to hug him and lifts him up with ease.
"Daddy!" he exclaims excitedly and wraps his tiny arms around his neck. "Good morning!" He grins brightly at him and Chanyeol's heart swells with happiness. He has missed him far more than he has been aware of.
"Good morning, sunshine," he replies and pecks his cheeks. His son giggles cutely, making him grin brightly as well.
"Good morning," the nanny says, as he steps closer, and hesitates for a moment. "Chanyeol," he eventually adds and smiles insecurely at him.
"Good morning, Baekhyun," Chanyeol replies and smiles back at him, trying to tell Baekhyun wordlessly that he can act more casual around him, even if he is Chanyeol's employee. "Has my favorite son in the world eaten breakfast already?" he asks his son, who shakes his head enthusiastically.
"We've waited for you to wake up," he chirps back. "Mr. Byun helped me to make you pancakes. You like pancakes, don't you, daddy?" He looks at him with twinkling, curious eyes and Chanyeol couldn't resist kissing his nose.
"Of course, especially when you make them," he replies and chuckles, as his son places a kiss on his nose in return. "Shall we go inside, then?" His son nods happily. Feeling a bit tired from carrying him, Chanyeol puts him down and watches him hurry inside. He smiles fondly at his retreating back and follows him. As he notices that Baekhyun isn't coming with them, he looks back and catches the latter smiling softly. Upon realizing that he has been caught staring, Baekhyun blushes and hurries inside as well. Chanyeol frowns and tilts his head to the left, wondering about the small incident, as Baekhyun walks past him. He shrugs eventually and joins his son and his nanny in the dining hall.
Together, they enjoy their breakfast, while his son blubbers happily away about all the fascinating things he has experienced the past few days. Chanyeol asks him many questions and listens attentively, as he recalls how he has made new friends and what they have played together and what his favorite teacher has told him about his drawings. He gestures wildly with his hands and knocks his glass almost over more often than just once and Chanyeol chuckles at his clumsiness he has most certainly inherited from him. His mother had been much more graceful. When Chanyeol looks up to Baekhyun a couple of times, he sees him smiling at his son and laughing quietly at his cute antics. Chanyeol has to admit that he has been very skeptical about hiring a nanny, but seeing how little time he has and how Baekhyun adores his little sunshine, he dismisses his doubts immediately.
"Baekhyun, can I talk to you for a moment?" he asks, as they finish cleaning up the table and putting the dishes inside the dishwasher and his son hurries out into the garden again.
"Sure," Baekhyun says and waits for him to continue
