hi anon, i wasn't sure if you just wanted au fic about them growing up together or close-canon alternate reality fic about them as idols on variety reminiscing about growing up together, so i chose the latter! hope that fits ;__; uh, ig this is also alternate reality where lee seunggi continued mc-ing strong heart and the show never got cancelled, haha. sorry it's so short!

"you two went to high school together, right?" seunggi says, shuffling the cards in his hands and grinning.

jongin chews on his bottom lip. sehun swivels in the chair behind him, feet knocking into jongin's seat. "yes, we did," jongin says. "seoul school of performing arts."

"any funny stories from that time?" he prompts, and sehun must look faintly alarmed because the studio audience laughs when seunggi points at him.

"we actually met at the end of grade school," jongin offers. he half-smiles when someone in the fourth row exclaims in surprise. "our moms were close. at one point sehun's parents had to go visit family in gwangju and he stayed with us for a couple of months."

"were you terrible kids together?"

"sehun was-not me," jongin says, laughing, and sehun groans at the betrayal.

"don't lie," he says sullenly. the audience laughs again.

"sehun-sshi was the type of kid who drew graffiti in the bathroom and skipped hagwon all the time to get food," jongin continues, warming up to it. "in middle school he once ordered two huge platters of bibimbap and ate it all himself."

"wait," seunggi says, "but how would you know unless you were there with him?"

jongin flushes. sehun crows something about justice being served and knocks his knuckles against jongin's shoulder. jongin twists around and sticks his tongue out.

"yeah, well," sehun says, leaning forward to address the cameras, arm draped over jongin's back, "kai-sshi's the kind of person who wore the same outfit five days in a row without washing anything. gross."

jongin shoves at him, scowling. "that was one time, and it was my school uniform!"

"you still do that, though," chanyeol provides helpfully from his seat in the third row, and jongin buries his face in his hands.

sehun ng's the next shot and there's a brief break in shooting as they switch out cameras. "turnabout is fair play," sehun breathes against his neck, eyes going narrow as he grins. jongin smacks him on the leg, rolls his eyes.
