Kris stares at Joonmyun, wondering whether this is really happening; the angel-faced leader just called him mean. It isn't the worst he has heard, but coming from a big softy like Joonmyun, it stings pretty badly. “What the hell,” he says defensively. “Why do you even care so much? It’s not like you’re actually his mother. We’re all just fucking colleagues who happen to live together.”

Oops. That did not come out right. It was not what he had intended to say, at all. Kris mentally punches himself for letting his mouth run. That is exactly the reason why he had tried so hard to talk less, lest the members discover this side of him that contrasts with the image he has right now

Kris unfurls his fist and clenches his water bottle instead. The practice room suddenly felt stuffy when SHINee had passed by and walked in to chat. He watches from the other side of the room as Joonmyun talks animatedly in his conversation with Jonghyun and Minho. Kris hardly notices Kibum walking over until the latter taps him on the shoulder

He finds Joonmyun kicking pebbles at the back entrance, mumbling to himself. Kris slowly eases in to stand next to the shorter man, and rumbles a low, “Hey.”

Joonmyun looks up, his eyes wide and startled to see Kris looming over him. He narrows his eyes again. “Are you trying to prove something?”

Kris moves back, surprised at Joonmyun's hostility. “I-no. I mean. Look, I didn't mean what I said that other day--"

“Then, what did you mean,” Joonmyun interjects, irritably stating the sentence rather than asking.

Fuck it. He sighs and takes a deep breath. “I-I got jealous, okay? You care for all the other members, showering them with hugs and affection, and for me…” he trails off. “Anyway, I didn't mean it. You clearly still care about us. You almost ran to Baekhyun when he hurt himself just now.” Kris risks a look at Joonmyun; the latter has a strange expression on his face, as if he couldn't decide to be delighted, flattered, or both
