Joonmyeon also needs to get the fuck out of here now.

“A little bird told me there is trouble in paradise” Baekhyun sing songs as he takes a seat across from Joonmyeon in the library.

“Lower your voice” Joonmyeon hisses. “And since when the highway to outright rejection became paradise, Baekhyun?”

Baekhyun raises both his hands in defeat and takes out his books. “Sometimes I wonder if you are really this stupid or you are just socially inept”

Joonmyeon tires to concentrate on the very long and very in depth analysis of the Chaucer’s poetry, but the words start to blur and mold until all he sees is: kill Baekhyun.
He doesn’t kill him, of course, he needs him for his mandatory ‘Usage of Computer in the presentation of your thesis’ course, instead he opts for hitting him in the sheens, hard.

They are in line to get coffee from the cheap coffee place just outside campus and Joonmyeon is wondering how much of his weekly paycheck he can allow himself to invest on a muffin because that thing looks absolutely poisonous and he wants it.

“So... ” Lu Han begins and he has that look on his face. The one Joonmyeon associates with too many blurry nights and very embarrassing morning afters. “...you saw Tao”

If they are having this conversation over coffee, Joonmyeon thinks, he needs that muffin.

“It was hard not to see her”

“I see, I see... She is pretty, isn’t she?”

Rhetorical question. Joonmyeon rolls his eyes. “You wanted to say stunning, gorgeous, absolutely perfect compared to... ”

Joonmyeon wants to say me, but shuts himself up, too much humiliation before coffee is not good.

“Compared to what, you?”

They are about to sit when Joonmyeon almost chokes on his coffee as Jongdae raises his eyes and he has no time to duck behind the huge green plant on his left. Their eyes meet and an easy smile pulls at his lips, Joonmyeon is so whipped his friends even stopped making fun of him for it.
They just pity him.
Joonmyeon hates his life sometimes. Mostly his friends.
Lu Han steers him towards Jongdae’s table and oh, look who’s sitting beside Jongdae, with his sneaky little hands on Jongdae’s everywhere?

“Hi, Tao” Lu Han greets cheerfully basically manhandling Joonmyeon to seat beside him, right in front of Tao’s basically naked breast. As far as revealing clothes go she’s a female version of Jongin.

Joonmyeon looks at his very unflattering brown sweater and sighs. He should have done laundry instead of watching running man yesterday.

Up close Tao is even more menacing, she clings to Jongdae for dear life and what’s worse is that he seems to enjoy the attention. Lu Han stomps on Joonmyeon’s foot under the table and Joonmyeon almost whimpers, but manages to cough through the pain. Lu Han smiles, but Joonmyeon knows better, so he tries to be friendly and smile at least when Tao asks him a couple of very polite questions about his field of studying.

As he illustrates the perks of studying stuff people wrote when men wore a leotard on daily basis, Jongdae watches him carefully, he looks a bit uneasy, maybe, Joonmyeon is not good at reading people.

“Have you seen the last Iron Man movie?” Jongdae asks (out of basically nowhere since they were talking about glasses) and he is looking right at Joonmyeon.

“Ehm... No, I was going to, but then stuff came up”

“We should go, this weekend”

Joonmyeon looks at Tao, then at Lu Han that is making weird foot play against his calf, probablily trying to tell him something in Morse alphabet, but Joonmyeon has never been on the other end of that kind of friendships so he is not sure if lu Han is telling him say yes for fucks sake or be considerate of his girlfriend! and stop drooling over his cheekbones. So he decides for a mix of the two.

“Yes, we should go... together, like a group outing, you coming Lu Han, right?”

They all look at him and Joonmyeon is sure he just said the wrongest thing ever because Lu Han shakes his head muttering a whatever and Jongdae looks positively disappointed.

On the much dreaded group outing night, Jongin shows up at Joonmyeon place a little bit earlier so they can walk to the cinema together, avoiding all the chances of Joonmyeon being alone with the cute couple.

“How is your ‘getting laid with Kim Jongdae’ plan going, hyung?” Ever delicate dongsaeng Jongin, asks as he launches himself on Joonmyeon’s bed.

Joonmyeon wouldn’t phrase it quite like that. Yes, he plans on getting laid with Kim Jongdae (or at least planned to, before the GWOC appeared) but that was like a bonus after getting Jongdae to actually like him, to maybe have him stick around for quite sometime (make it forever) and do all those cavities-inducing things couples do (like taking pictures of them kissing in a photobooth).

“Are you daydreaming about making out with Jongdae?” Jongin is far too sharp sometimes. “You were making kissy faces at those shirt, hyung”

Joonmyeon crawls beside Jongin and fails at smother himself with his pillow. “He has a girlfriend and a hot one at that. She’s like the Great Wall Of China between me and any possible relationship with Jongdae”

“She’s what? And since when Jongdae has a grilfriend? He is as straight as a cooked spaghetti”

Joonmyeon makes a sound of discomfort when Jongin nudges him with his knee.

“She has big boobs and long smooth legs and she’s nice and smiles prettily... I have no chance”

Joonmyeon is still buried under his pillow when Jongin nudges him again. “Are you talking about Tao?”

Joonmyeon nods. “Looong black hair, deep expressive eyes...”

“Oh. My. God. Hyung” is all Jongin says before he bursts out laughing.

He doesn’t stop even when Joonmyeon pushes him off the bed.

When they arrive everybody is already there, and Chanyeol already bought their tickets. There is an addition to their already heterogenous company, a tall blonde guy that looks like he wants to murder half of them and kill the other half and had Tao at his arm.

Joonmyeon is about to enquire who the new guy might be when Tao pecks him on the lips and says something Joonmyeon doesn’t quite catch. The guy’s eyebrows twitch and Joonmyeon interpretes that weird thing he is trying to do as a smile. Joonmyeon’s brain cannot process all the informations.

“I think you haven’t met Tao’s boyfriend yet, Joonmyeon” Lu Han says with a seraphic smile.

Joonmyeon wants to strangle and bring him back alive only to strangle him again. Baekhyun is grinning and Jongin is clearly trying not to choke on his laughter as he awkwardly coughs behind Chanyeol.

Joonmyeon feels betrayed.

“Jongdae is at the restroom” Chanyeol says very helpfully. He likes Chanyeol, they should spend more time together.

He hadn’t really planned for a bathroom in a cinema to be the perfect scenario for his confession, but he is not about to complain, really. Joonmyeon pushes the door open and finds Jongdae washing his hands (thank god, because it would have been awkward to walk on him doing his business and wait for him to finish to confess). He smiles when he catches Joonmyeon’s reflection on the mirror.

“I thought you weren’t coming” he says and the tone is playful, but maybe a little uncertain on the edges, Joonmyeon likes it. A lot. Like all things that make Jongdae Jongdae.

“Cannot miss Robert” he says leaving the door to close on its own.

Jongdae turns and Joonmyeon has to say it, like now, so they can be done and over with this whole thing and he can be the happiest man on earth or drawn in misery for a while before getting back on his feet.

“I like you” he says. “I like you a lot and I would love for you to go on a date with me”

Jongdae looks surprised, his eyebrows rise and his mouth goes slack for a moment before he collects himself and the surprise turns into amusement.

“Never thought you’d ask in a bathroom” Jongdae looks pleased. “I thought you’d be more... romantic, candles and all that jazz”

Joonmyeon chuckles. “What’s more romantic of me riding the wave of the moment to make a totally unplanned confession despite the adverse circumstances?”

“Fair” Jongdae says and his eyes lit up. “And you know what would be even more romantic?” he asks walking up to Joonmyeon and wrapping his sinfully beautiful hands on his waist.

Joonmyeon shakes his head and Jongdae drags him inside one of the stalls, lock clicking behind them. Joonmyeon figures he is going to find out.
