“Oh, really?” Choyeon shifts her weight on crooked legs. “That’s cool, me too. I don’t have that much to bring with me yet though, so. Yeah.”
“Yeah.” Silence hangs awkwardly over them for a minute, Choyeon playing with the hem of her skirt, Sokyung twisting nervous braids into her hair. If not for Minha’s hand, Lu Xia surely would’ve blurted something inappropriate by now. “Ah, I almost forgot!” Sokyung grabs one of her boxes of food and hands it to Choyeon. “I brought you lunch, just in case you forgot. Bongyoon told me you like spicy cod stew. Also, th-there’s apricot candy.”
“Woah, you made this for me?” Choyeon turns the box over in her hands, grins manically when Sokyung nods. “Thanks! I already knew you were awesome, but. Woah.”
Sokyung ducks her head so hair covers her obvious flush. “Don’t make a big deal out of it, it was nothing. Any time.”
“I’m going to eat this now, so I’ll see you later?” Choyeon takes a step toward, the kind you take when going in for a hug or something, then stops and walks away. It’s incredibly awkward, and Lu Xia’s laughter comes out loudly when Minha takes her hand away.
Minha doesn’t comment on the exchange. Sokyung isn’t any less embarrassed and starts to defend herself. “I know what you’re thinking, but it’s not that simple. She and I are…different. Way to different to work.”
As soon as Minha opens her box, Lu Xia stabs into it with her fork, stealing a piece of beef.
“I’ve only known Choyeon for a few days, but she has so much energy, I don’t think I could keep up with her. Not to mention the maturity.”
Minha slaps Lu Xia’s greedy hands away, even when she whines with wide eyes and a childish pout.
“And, this might sound ridiculous, but I’m positive she’s a little, um, insane? She told me she couldn’t wait to be an upperclassman so she could have an army of freshmen pets. Isn’t that ridiculous?”
Like always, Minha is weak and gives in too early, pushing the box of food between the two of them and letting Lu Xia overstuff herself to her heart’s content. Lu Xia beams and presses a kiss to Minha’s cheek.
“You understand, right? I mean, you wouldn’t date someone like that, would you?”
Minha glances at Sokyung, at the pensive way her lips purse, and answers, “Wouldn’t even consider it.”
Weeks pass. Minha is sitting cross-legged on her bed with her letterman jacket on, handheld console in hand and fingers smashing the buttons frantically. Guilty Gear isn’t as fun when Haejin isn’t playing as well, but the computer opponents make for good practice. She’s just finished smashing Bridget into the ground when the doorbell rings. Someone else answers before she can move.
“Sokyung? What’re you doing here?” Minha hears Haejin ask. “We’re not hanging out until later.”
“I know. I’m here to see if your sister’s home.”
“That traitor is so not my sister.” Minha smirks at Haejin’s bitter tone. “What are you, her fan-girl? I’m the prettier one, you should be my fan.”
“Aren’t you Joori’s self-proclaimed ‘favorite pet’?”
“Shut up, that’s different!”
Minha laughs into her jacket sleeve and shuts the game off. Sokyung knocks softly on her bedroom door and Minha calls her in. “You could’ve just texted me and asked if I was home. What if you came all this way and I wasn’t here?”
Sokyung smiles under the immediate scolding. “It’s okay, I was already nearby. I just came from…the library.”
“The library’s nowhere near here, kid.” Minha stands from the bed and pinches Sokyung’s cheek, stretching it taut and releasing. “There’s only one point of interest for you nearby, and it’s definitely not a library. Unless you’ve been reading up on Choyeon’s -.”

Minha laughs at the obvious deflection and lets it pass. “Yep, and you only have to wait two years until you get your own.”
“Really? That long?”
“Of course! We can’t hand these out to every freshman who might end up quitting before the semester ends. You have to be loyal to the pom-pom.”
Sokyung’s face falls more than Minha expected, and she suspects the jacket isn’t the whole of the reason. “But…you’re a junior now. You’ll be gone be gone in two years. We won’t be able to wear them together.”
And the thought of the future is a bit depressing, Minha realizes. She scrubs her hand through her messy fringe, trying to find a way to lighten Sokyung’s mood. “Hey, how about I let you wear my spare so you don’t have to wait?” She goes to her closet to unhook an identical jacket and tosses it to Sokyung. “My mom ordered an extra just in case. We’re the same size, so it should fit right. Put it on.”
The jacket is an exact fit, though Sokyung’s chest fills it out a little better. Sokyung is considerably happier, twisting her torso to get examine herself in the full-length mirror next to Minha. “Feels like power,” she murmurs. Strangely enough, Minha agrees.
After they pose ridiculously with each other for a few minutes, Minha grins at Sokyung. “I don’t have a picture of you in my phone yet. Wanna take one? Immortalize the power?”
Sokyung is already taking out her phone and throwing an arm over Minha’s shoulders. “What do we say?”
“Pom, of course.” Minha throws up peace signs for the camera. Sokyung snorts.
“Say ‘pom’!”
