“Um,” Tao mumbles into Sehun’s jumper, hands tumbling from around his waist, “Um.”
Sehun stiffens, turning to face Tao, eyebrows knitted in concern. Jongin’s mouth goes slack, eyes bulging out of his head when he realises Sehun wasn’t the only one who heard his words. Tao, really, he’s trying not to cry; really, really. Only, he thinks he might be because his eyes are stinging and his face feels hot and Sehun is making little mewls of distress.
“Ah, Tao, I’m sorry I didn’t mean-“ Jongin bursts out.
“Issokay,” Tao sniffs, and he’s sure his Korean is more accent that actual Korean, but he can’t help it, “It’s not like is-is a l-lie.”
Sehun pulls him close, hand tugging on Tao’s wrist and then, all of a sudden, he is wrapped in strong, unwavering arms. And that opens the floodgates, Tao’s wails muffled somewhere between Sehun’s chest and armpit.
The latter sends Jongin a scathing look of ‘Well done, dumbass.” Jongin flinches, and if anything, the look of guilt on his face triples.
“Tao,” Sehun breathes, tightening his arms around the smaller boy, “Tao.” Tao sniffles in response and he thinks this is it; this is how Sehun breaks up with me. Not to be anything other than composed at his own dumping, he tries to pull away, rubbing his palms furiously against is puffy eyes, but Sehun intertwines his fingers with his own and doesn’t let go.
“You could never,” Sehun declares, “Ever, be annoying to me. I like having you around; you make all my shitty days not so shitty.”
Tao tries to pull away, he knows that it isn’t true, but Sehun tugs him back again.
“Listen to me; the only one sticking around when he isn’t wanted is Kim Jong-idiot. I mean,” Sehun pauses, and this makes Tao look up through his teary lashes, “I really, really like you.” Tao’s heart starts hammering frantically in his chest just as Sehun’s cool complexion dusts a rosy pink. Well, this is new.
“Oh my god.” Jongin groans in disgust.
“R-Really?” Tao manages to whisper over Jongin’s feigned dry-heaves.
“Really.” Sehun breathes back, pressing his forehead against Tao’s own, warm breath tingling on their lips. When Sehun presses his soft lips to his own, Tao swears he sees fireworks and lovebirds and he doesn’t think he’s worried at all anymore.
“You guys are disgust-“
Sehun whips around, arms still full of Tao but bitch face in full force, “If I could castrate myself with an ice skate, I’m sure I could do the same to you.”
Tao snorts into Sehun’s damp jumper, and ew, maybe it’s a little snotty now, too. But that’s ok, because Sehun is soft and warm and he never complains.
(And, maybe from that day on, his hand remains firmly planted in Tao’s back pocket. But that was the plan, right?)
