"Only kind of." He protests as Baekhyun laughs uncontrollably over the phone, almost shrieking in unison with Chanyeol who is surely eavesdropping on the side. "I said only kind of!"
But it's also kind of gotten worse as she rehearses with him and goes over his pronunciation word by word. Jongdae tries to ignore the way Liyin sits close to him, or the way her eyes crinkle when she laughs, or the way her finger moves across the score notes as she points out that it's the fourth tone, not the second. There's no way out of this, he reasons with himself. Then Liyin claps him on the shoulder for his good effort and Jongdae kind of falls in love all over again.
When they fly to Beijing for the first of their promotional interviews, Jongdae pretends to sleep in the seat beside her. Liyin is visibly excited, peeking out of the window every chance she can get, while he tries to calm his nerves by counting backwards from a thousand. The fans come out in full force as they exit the airport, and he steadies her once when they push too hard. Jongdae tries not to smile at that and fails terribly. His too-happy face turns up in fifty fansites the next day but he can take that.
"You are so screwed," Chanyeol yells over the phone, "but you also have good taste."
Of course. The next day they do multiple interviews in a row, and when he draws a horse to match her elephant (recognisable at least, compared to Kris), she laughs so happily that Jongdae's quite willing to draw a book of them for her.
"Here," Liyin passes him a bottle of water when they are bundled into the car, "for your throat."
It's just a bottle of water but Jongdae stashes it away in his backpack and swears to never, ever let any of the other members know of its existence. Then he turns around and says thank you. When Liyin smiles at him and settles into her seat, and then again when they sing in Changsha, and when she passes him a microphone in Seoul, and when he touches her hand accidentally on purpose and she smiles kind of knowingly at that--Jongdae kind of falls in love one more time again.

but this is all sort of cuteness and i just kind of fall in love with this otp all over again because "she laughs so happily that Jongdae's quite willing to draw a book of them for her" is just so kim jongdae with "adorable" as his middle name
