The note Kyungsoo gave him is still in his pocket. He can’t help but take it out and finger the edge out of habit as he waits for ‘all day’ to end--how long is there left? He glances at the clock but the short hand is just past twelve because it’s lunch time and it’s not quite home time yet.

“Let me see!” Chanyeol suddenly pipes up, doing grabby hands at him.

Baekhyun jerks back from Chanyeol’s wide grin and shining eyes and glowers at him. “No,” he says.

“I want to see! Let me see!” says Chanyeol insistently, reaching over to take it from him.

Baekhyun tries to move it out of his grasp but Chanyeol’s arms are too long and he snatches it from Baekhyun’s tight grip, pulling it out along with Baekhyun. Baekhyun falls forward, flat onto his face, and the note is crumpled in Chanyeol’s big, clumsy hands from his fist. It hurts, his face hurts and his nose hurts and his cheek hurts, but Baekhyun isn’t going to cry, he isn’t. He gets up and his eyes are watering but he isn’t going to cry.

“Oh,” says Chanyeol. “I--”

Baekhyun scrubs at his eyes and yanks the note back with an angry scowl. He hates Chanyeol. He isn’t going to cry but he thinks he hates Chanyeol because Chanyeol’s stupid and dumb and he’s nosy and annoying. Bringing his fist up to hit at Chanyeol’s big, stupid monkey arms--and he wants to hit Chanyeol’s stupid, dumb face too, with his stupid dumb smile and his stupid dumb wide eyes--his hand is flying over until there’s a comforting hand on his and he turns to see a tear-blurred Kyungsoo looking softly at him. He doesn’t say anything because the day hasn’t ended yet and he still isn’t talking to Baekhyun but he slips his fingers in between Baekhyun’s and leads him away to the infirmary, leaving a gaping Chanyeol behind.

The nurse tells him he’s got a scrape on his cheek and it’s bleeding a little bit, and his knees are bleeding too. She bandages his knees and puts a dinosaur band-aid on his face and Kyungsoo is holding his hand all the while. It’s scary because the infirmary smells like antiseptic and hospitals but it’s less scary when Kyungsoo is here. He still doesn’t like Kyungsoo (he thinks) but he misses Kyungsoo and now that he’s here, it’s better.

When the nurse turns around, he feels a wet kiss on his cheek, right where the band-aid is. And then, on the back of his hand where his knuckles have been hurt, and Kyungsoo is blinking at him with round eyes, cheeks blushing. He takes the paper that’s still clenched in Baekhyun’s fist and grabs a pen from the nurse’s desk. His legs swing on the bench as he scrawls something else down to the note and gives it back to Baekhyun. Baekhyun sucks his bottom lip into his mouth and reads the note.

Kyungsoo loves him, and Baekhyun thinks that he doesn’t really dislike Kyungsoo; he thinks he might love Kyungsoo if Kyungsoo loves him. He thinks he might love Kyungsoo in the way Appa and Umma because when Appa tells Umma he loves her, he always kisses her and that’s what Baekhyun wants to do to Kyungsoo right now. He leans over shyly and kisses Kyungsoo back on the cheek, a wet sloppy kiss, and Kyungsoo doesn’t really like it when Baekhyun kisses him, but this time, he doesn’t pull back.

He quickly writes something back and hands it to Kyungsoo, who opens it, heart shaped lips stretching into a smile.
