[Minseok's part] Early morning, amongst all the members that were zonked, Xiumin rolled, stood up, and danced. Then, when (we) had eye contact, he embarrassingly smiled brighly. His bright laughter seemed like the sole fall breeze in the icy cold palace.
Q: This is what Xiumin’s hair color is. There seem to be a lot of questions on the internet, ‘What exactly is Xiumin’s hair color?’ A: Really? I didn’t know. So, did you find out what color they think it is?
Q: Copper, brown, light ash brown, etc. What color did you like best? A: I liked the orange hair from ‘Wolf’ the best. I now know why people say that when you change your hair, it seems like a new you. It’s good to try new things.
Q: Do you like going to new places as well? To be honest, you guys are away from Seoul more than half the month. One day you’re in Thailand, the next China, then Japan. A: Yes, I like it. To be honest, when you go abroad, you can’t communicate fluently or even read the signs clearly. But it’s a place that I go for the first time or am not used to, it’s exciting.
Q: How does it feel when you come back to Seoul? A: How should I put this. I relax and feel comfortable as if I came home. I think ‘ah, I should rest now.’
Q: Unfortunately, there are more times where you can’t rest, right? I don’t think there’s a singer in Seoul busier than EXO. Your first album, sold a million copies. No one was able to guess another million seller would come up in the singing industry. It’s been twelve years (since the last). A: We thought the same. And ‘a million albums’ is not a number that we can easily feel. We were just dumbfounded and asked the management hinges, “Ah, that means our fans bought a lot of albums right?”
Q: Do you think there will be junior singers that will now dream of being a singer after seeing EXO? A: No way. We still have a long way to go. We have to grow a lot more.
Q: How do you think you’ll feel if a junior singer appears (that dream of being a singer because of EXO)? A: I really don’t know how I’ll feel. I only know the opposite of how that feels really well. The feeling of having someone as a role model and then working hard to improve for a long time until that opportunity comes to you. Like how I dreamt of being a singer after seeing TVXQ seniors.
Q: You prepared for a long time and ambitiously debuted. Looking back, what was the most precious moment that you remember most. A: Probably when I realized more people were interested in us through ‘Wolf’ and ‘Growl.’ Rather than winning first place in music programs or winning the grand prize at the ‘2013 Mnet Asian Music Awards,’ I remember more of the precious moments of working hard to get to that spot.
Q: What kind of year was 2014 to Xiumin? A: We were less busy than 2013. That is why I don’t really feel like we suffered working as hard. But I was happy because we had our first concert.
Q: If you could say something to the Xiumin who worked hard in 2014? A: I want to say, “You did well. But in 2015, let’s suffer a bit more and achieve more. (t/n: literally it’s like suffer more working but it basically means work harder to achieve more. Or do better.)
Q: Aren’t you busy enough and work hard enough? A: No way. We have to move more busily in order to see fans more, to sing more, and to dance more.

[Suho's part] When I looked at Suho, who only gave model answers, or ordered low salt food for himself at the restaurant, I thought he might be a somewhat tiring person. But it’s his considerate charm when he tried to fill in for members that gave short answers, or when he intentionally put the delicious dishes near the staff, that drew my attention.
Q: We heard that you’ve been holding 1 hour long monthly meetings with all EXO members since pre-debut. Do you still proceed to do so? S: Yes, I do. I called it a ‘meeting’, but the meeting itself is not as serious as it sounds. It’s a gathering I came up with the mindset that it’s important to talk among ourselves during promotional periods.
Q: What kind of issues have come up recently? S: Haha, to put it together, the main point was ‘If it’s not our own concert, let’s refrain from adding adlibs during performances at common broadcasts”. Because on broadcast, synchronization is more important than bringing out each member’s individuality.
Q: Thus, when troubles arise during the meetings or among the members, is leader Suho the type to let them be or the type to step forward and help solve them? S: I will listen to what they have to say first before making any judgment. I have to be aware whether my inference will help resolve the problems or will make the situation worse.
Q: Regarding the members, do you have any problems as a leader? S: There were times where the phone calls from my members when I was spending my personal time were a bit unwelcome. But being someone who can be if some help even at the very least during their hard times is much better than being a leader that no one comes to for help.
Q: Such a good mannered answer. So much like your nickname ‘Sunnouncer’, the combination of announcer and Suho. S: Haha. That nickname is quite old though.
Q: When you sing a song, your voice sounds so emotional. Whether using some techniques or not, your tone, vocalization and pronunciation are so good, it can be heard very clearly. S: That’s why in the future I would like to sing a ballad song that focuses on the meaning in the lyrics. Something like Super Junior Kyuhun hyung’s “At Gwanghamun”.
Q: You were born and raised in Seoul right? What is the charm of Seoul under your observation? S: Seoul is a convenient and practical city. Wherever you go in Seoul, there’s always a variety of convenient facilities.
Q: Are there times when you dislike Seoul once in a while? S: There are no times when I dislike it. There are times when I feel sad that relationships get rather desolate as we try to keep up with the fast flow of the society though. Even so, I love Seoul. I want to live in Seoul forever. There are many good foods as well.
Q: What is the best food in Seoul? S: It’s meat. Our fans all know it anyways, so it’s okay to say it, right? There’s this place in Cheongdamdong that sells Hanwoo, I really like it there.
Q: You debuted in 2012, it’s been 3 years since. When was the moment your heart felt most overwhelmed? S: It was May 23 when EXO had our own concert. My birthday was on the 22nd so we threw a birthday party too.
Q: Did you get any birthday presents at the time? S: It was a booklet filled with birthday messages that my fans posted on a fanpage. Inside were long letters, or famous sayings that they wanted to tell me, or short ments, and the title was ‘Suho ya, happy birthday’.
Q: It’s nice to see how you are enjoying your life as EXO. S: Yes, I try not to forget to enjoy what’s given, as well as to feel grateful for those given to me.
Suho’s Yeouido
"I’ve been living in Yeouido for 5 years. Having spent my elementary-school years and middle-school years at Yeouido, an area swamped with several popular broadcasting companies, it probably aspired me to dream of becoming an entertainer. At that time I found broadcasting station interesting. While I was going around those broadcasting station, I kept wondering whether I would one day bump into celebrities and then I took a peek inside the building. I realized that I have become a singer.
[Kyungsoo's part] "EXO’s D.O made successive drama and movie débuts, transforming himself from an idol singer into an actor, delivering a surprise to all who looked bitterly upon idol-turned-actors. Even in the midst of much praise, he hasn’t let pride get to him, managing to balanced things well.
This year you were one of the busiest amongst EXO’s members, giving us a change to learn more about a Do Kyungsoo beyond D.O. All the other members also had very busy schedules, as well. Do Kyungsoo or D.O., Han Kangwoo from ‘It’s Okay, It’s Love’, Choi Taeyoung from ‘Cart’; to me; all of them are just me. Although I am Do Kyungsoo, I find that living the other lives which have been given to me - such as that of D.O., Han Gangwoo, or Choi Taeyoung - is quite fun. From now on, I wish to also experience other characters.
It appears that EXO’s member D.O. is also one of the many personas of Do Kyungsoo, and one that you appear to enjoy. Yes. Although these personas are something from within me, D.O. the singing and dancing person, and the person that comes out in dramas being one that acts.
Much praise has come your way thanks to your acting, but you appear very calm in the midst of it all. Naturally, I am both happy and thankful good when I receive praise, but I try not to take these compliments for granted. In my opinion, I am not yet deserving of such praise and I am still far away from reaching such a point.
Are you a type of person who doesn’t waver in face of emotional turmoil, and isn’t swayed by feelings, whether it be happiness or sadness? I don’t really have major mood swings, nor do I bottle up stress, and I forget about it very easily. I’m happy when I’m happy, sad when I’m sad and I always return to my normal state soon afterwards.
You seem to be a person who is difficult to read. I have heard that from many people, so I must be so. I don’t really let my emotions show and I tend to just sit there quietly. (laughter) Honestly, I hear that it’s difficult to tell what I’m thinking, with me also not being on the talkative side. From a young age, I haven’t had someone with whom I could share my feelings. It’s a worry that I have, but I am making an effort.
It takes a while for you to get close to people, so you must pursue more meaningful relationships, rather than shallow ones. I think it’s hard for me to open my heart, so I must make an effort to do so. Even in this interview, I am trying to talk a lot.
So, who is a person with whom D.O. can share himself? While filming the drama, I talked a lot with Jo Insung and Lee Gwangsoo sunbaenims. I thought to myself, ‘I can talk about anything with these two people, what a relief.
The roles you played in ‘It’s Okay, That’s Love’ and ‘Cart’ were not those of your typical ‘rich youngest son’ character. How did you receive them and how did that influence your portrayal? I cannot be certain that my interpretation was correct. Write Noh Hwikyung didn’t make too many demands of me, which I liked. I was told only the general, key points, making me comfortable enough to allow for natural acting. I learned a lot through these two projects. Since I am new to the working life, I didn’t know about social issues ranging from part-time worker and labour unions, but working on this movie allowed me to think more about such matters.
What sort of role would you like to take on next? I would like to try a fun character, like ‘Architecture 101’s’ Napdeukhi or ‘Misaeng’s’ Han Sukryul, who fool around. Though, I am not sure whether I could do it well.
Is there something other than acting and singing that draws your interest? I really want to travel. Okinawa and Singapore seem good, and I’d also like to go on a backpacking trip. I watched ‘Youth Over Flowers’ with much interest and thought that it would be a nice experience to travel like that.
What sort of a place is Seoul to D.O.? A place where I can often watch late-night movies alone, Seoul is a bustling place but has everything you need to live comfortably. Also, the night views of Seoul from a landing plane are very pretty. The lights converge and shine brightly like diamonds.
Is there anything you’d like to say to yourself, now that 2014 has almost come to a close? ‘You still have a long way to go.’ I want to tell myself that I’m still lacking in many respects and that I still have much work ahead of me. Next year, I am still not going to be satisfied, but will continue working hard. After ten years, and even after I turn forty, I will still feel the same.”
