I managed to play some more poker today, this time at the Poker Room in Seabrook, NH. All they have is tournaments and $1/$2 limit games (Hold 'em and Omaha Hi-Lo), but it's the only action in town. The limit games are a tough grind, since almost no one ever folds. If there's a flush or straight possibility, it's likely someone was drawing to it, no matter what their starting hand would have been. "4-5 offsuit? Sure. All the way to the river, and I'll call that raise every time." Basically, you have to play very, very conservatively, and even then you have to lay down what should have been a winner now and again.
I managed to pull $50 out of it, but it was rough. I had my pocket Aces cracked three separate times by trash hands. One of those times I had even connected on the board to make a set, raising all the way, but a woman to my left kept calling all the way to the river... where she hit her flush with two low diamonds.
So, if you're ever in the mood to get frustrated, low-limit poker is the way to go. Eh, who am I kidding. I'll be back.
