Okay, so if there's anything I spend way too much money on it is music. Seriously, I spend far too much money on concert tickets, EPs and itunes. so here you go, you get to hear about all the new music I downloaded and have been listening to nonstop all week. I'll put my non-coherent reviews under cuts so you can ignore them if you want.
Also, I give up on trying to get this to format correctly.
I really liked this bands first full-length album which I got into because of one song of theirs that I could not get out of my head no matter how much I tried. I loved that entire album and have been waiting for this one to come out since they recorded and started tweeting about it. Seriously, those boys are rediculous. Found
this review and I completely agree with it. So much love for this band lately.
- For Always Forever - Does this seem like a sequel to This One’s a Cheap Shot to anyone else? The guitars in the beginning are a great start to the album. I love songs that are about nostalgia. This one’s a lot of fun and it creates such cool images. I really, really like the chorus of this song.
- Mindset - I love this song. I like the kind of overproduced chorus that they start off with. I’m totally still tripping over all of the words in the second verse but I just love the third. I can’t even tell you why but I think this is my favorite song on the album. First point where I really go, hey, I like the new drummer. And I love the guitar in the bridge.
- Tell Me I’m a Wreck- I really love how Dave has two different tones of his voice in this song. The back and forth from almost screaming to singing in the second verse gives me shivers. I think everyone has someone they could totally scream all those lyrics at. I love when songs tell stories and I feel like a lot of the songs on this CD do that.
- Picture Perfect - Fun song right from the drums and guitar at the start. The whole song is just pure energy and I really want to see it performed live now that I know it. Also, I don’t know who this guy doing guest vocals is but love it.
- Happy The Hard Way - Their slow songs are always so pretty, and I love the piano on this one. Again with this boys voice, to quote Devon; perfect.
- Girl Like That - I love the sound of this entire song. It’s just so fun, and I kind of freak out at the thought of seeing it onstage. Drums again! It makes me want to dance around the room and feels like their concerts… if that makes sense. Also, I love the chorus that they all sing. I love songs with that.
- Saying Goodbye - Another really pretty ballad that makes me love the singing and the fact that drums are very prominent in this band’s ballads.
- Finish What You Started - I’m not the biggest fan of the start of this song until it rushes into that first chorus. Parts are hit or miss.
- I Forgive You - Bass and guitar in the intro really catch my attention. I want to know more about who writes the lyrics. The chorus to this song makes me laugh “excuse me while I laugh my ass off” Really?
- Story Left Untold - Another story song and ballad and it is beautiful. The vocals are nice again and the bridge is very much my favorite part. Also, violin?
- Clumsy Little Heart - I get distracted by the guitar on this song a lot, I a good way. Reminds me of some of the early songs on the CD and the vocals remind me a little of Where Were You.
- Until I Get Caught Red Handed - I want to see this live. Please? I can already see the band jumping around the stage. The ‘whoa-oah-oahs’ are kind of awesome. Also see drums.
Dear Jack EP - Jack’s Mannequin
Oh my god, listening to this EP made me cry on the way to work. To anyone who has watched Dear Jack I really, really want to talk about it. Please leave reactions here or IM me.
- Dear Jack - Just starting out with that piano in the beginning is very Andrew. I wish he’d sung this at the solo show last month. It goes from slow to high energy (for Andrew) and the lyrics are just kind of amazing. It’s a good anthem I think and definitely up there with CavanaughPark.
- Diane, The Skyscraper - This song has so many references. I mean there are clear references to At Full Speed and Hurricane (Jack’s Mannequin and Something Corporate songs respectively). And Brian Ireland wrote Hurricane so it’s even more of a shout out to his old band. And the other illusions the song makes are to events in Dear Jack, being in the hospital in New York. It gives me shivers.
- There, There Katie - I’ve been waiting to hear this song recorded since I saw parts of it on MTV when Andrew was in remission. I think I heard it at a concert once. It’s fun and emotional and beautifully written. It makes me really want to learn piano as much as some of his other songs. And after seeing the film and hearing from his sister and mom about the song. Just, yeah, totally cried. .
- Swim (Music Box Version) - I have to say I can understand the lyrics of this song a lot better on this version than the album version. Lyrically the song is really inspirational. I love the effect they’re using on the piano and it’s just a pretty, pretty song.
Play For Keeps EP -Leave me alone, I love Cash to death and I’m really glad he’s still doing something involved with music. I’ve been listening to a few of PFK’s demos since I added them on twitter. Finally got the EP and added it to my rotation and I am happy to say that I really do like it. Heard two more songs tonight during Cash’s and Cameron’s stickam chat that I wish were on the EP because they were seriously good. Looking forward to hearing more. Check them out.
- 3 AM - My first impression on this song is that I really like their singer’s voice. Jeez, just starts off really strong and doesn’t remotely back down at any point during the entire song. Also whoever is doing backing vocals. The drums in this song are great.
- Some Things were Said - Like the guitar more on this song. I found myself paying attention to it more. Especially on the breaks between verses.
- Lay It Down - Different from the first two songs. I feel like the vocals are overpowered a little bit by the drums and guitars in parts. There are few little vocal things in this song that I don’t necessarily dislike, but I don’t really like either. Excellent guitar in the bridge.
- Miss Melissa - Really like this song lyrically. The chorus keeps getting stuck in my head which is a good sign with me.
- Take a Chance - Sucks me in right away. Guitar makes me happy and I like the sound on the vocals. It’s probably the most different song on the EP in terms of sound, but I really, really like it. Very high energy almost all the way to the end.
- This Letter - yay, a slow song. Again, I think the instruments overpower the vocals in a few places but the kid has a good voice and this song is definitely something I could listen to regularly.
