“Hey Aki, Jack!” Crow greeted from where he was standing, just outside the doorway of Godwin’s English classroom at room B222.

“Crow-kun!” Aki waved as she was walking side-by-side with Jack toward the classroom. “You’re in this class, right?”

“You bet!” Crow showed his grin but then frowned swiftly as he also saw Jack with her new attraction. “You didn’t do anything stupid with Aki last period, do you?”

“No, why would you think that?” Jack asked, slightly annoyed that Crow is starting to get on his nerves again.

“You know…your attitude,” Crow answered, dumbfounded at Jack’s stubbornness to realize himself as a selfish and corrupt teenager.

“Why you! Look at yourself! It’s you who dress himself up as Carly-sensei and trying to act like her but got yourself detention for being a cock,” Jack countered furiously.

“Jack! Don’t reveal that in front of a person we just met!” Crow yelled, embarrassed for the second time today. Aki find Crow pretty interesting for this particular reason.

“Stop complaining you hobo!”

“Take that back!”

“The hell with you!”

“Jack-kun! Crow-kun! Stop fighting!” Aki intervened. “Crow-kun, Jack-kun never did anything to me! He was busy doing a make-up test for Placido-sensei’s class.”

“Ha!”

“Well, then why didn’t you say that sooner?!”

“Because I like to mess you up.”

“Fuck you!”

“Uh, excuse me. Class is about to begin,” said another student, just outside the blocked doorway. Godwin-sensei, who saw it all, was frowning at the four of them from his spot near the SmartBoard.

“Oops, sorry,” Crow apologized and quickly step inside the classroom. Jack and Aki quickly followed him inside. Godwin-sensei’s classroom was a little smaller than Luccanio’s and Placido’s classrooms but felt more comfortable and cozier according to Aki’s first feelings of the new atmosphere and setting. The walls were a golden yellow and had about five rows of seats split into two outer sections and one middle section, just like the previous classes.

Godwin-sensei’s full name is Rex Godwin, the principal’s brother. There are the first brothers as principal and teacher in all of this school’s history. Aki was not at all surprised since they have the same last name and that there were working as the school staff for nearly a decade. What did surprise her was that they weren’t the first in all of Japan…or the world for that matter. Rex looked much older than his brother despite confirmed in her school brochure that he’s younger by more than three years. He has gray-white hair running down his back in an almost feminine-like way, and wore an inner light blue shirt with an image of a condor in the middle and a blue outer uniform with the school’s logo on one side. He wasn’t wearing a tie. He has gray pants that match his hair, white shoes, and a hard look on his face that illuminated his neutral expression. He looked much less joyful than his brother.

Aki suddenly felt nervous as she knew Godwin-sensei didn’t have the first good impressions she hoped he would have, but that doesn’t matter any longer. She walked over to the teacher, whom was writing something on the board. Crow and Jack nodded to each other and followed her. The other students in the room were watching them in interest.

“Godwin-sensei-” Aki began but got stuck.

Godwin stopped writing and looked at Aki with an unfriendly frown. “Who are you?”

“Teacher!” Crow yelled. “Don’t say something that rude to a girl!”

Godwin glared at Crow, whom stepped back a little. Jack frowned and glared back. The class was seemingly drained of life, and Aki could feel her heart being thrown into space with this uncomfortable tension.

“I’m sorry,” Godwin said suddenly.

Aki gasped in surprise at Godwin’s lost battle with Jack. She could feel Jack smirking behind her neck. “Eh?”

“I’m sorry,” Godwin repeated and he put down his marker. He turned toward her and bowed deeply with his left arm behind his back. Aki gasped again at his respective actions. “I shouldn’t disrespect a perfect young lady. My apologies.”

Aki didn’t know that to say, but Crow nudged her back to say something. “I’m a new student. My name is…Izayoi Aki.”

“You’re a new student. I have been informed by my big brother,” Godwin said. He then continued in his Engrish, “Welcome Aki. You may take a seat next to your two new friends. I hope you will take pleasure in our class.”

Aki bowed quickly and then followed Crow and Jack to their desks, which were, not surprisingly, the back. Aki sat between Crow and Jack, which she finds unusually since Crow and Jack were friends, and shouldn’t friends be sitting next each other?

“Crow-kun, don’t you sit next to Jack-kun, so you can keep each other company?”

“No way. Jack actually paid attention in this class. Besides, he is a piece of shit anyway.”

“Crow, don’t get me started…” Jack growled in annoyance.

Class was more interesting than she thought. They were learning how to pronounce an English paragraph about the Cold War, a non-combat battle between America, friend, and the dissolved Soviet Union, enemy. And Aki noticed Crow was right about Jack’s interest. He was smiling as he read the long paragraph. Crow was grumbling about how this isn’t supposed to be history class, which earned a chuckle from Aki.

They also had to write a paragraph themselves about what they thought, in English as well, or the best they can write in English. Class was almost over when Jack was finished, the first one.

“Done!” Jack called out in Engrish, holding his paper high.

Aki was surprised at Jack’s quickness as she was a couple of sentences from finishing. She just couldn’t figure out this specific word in English. She glanced and gaped at Jack’s handwriting.

It was neat.

“Jack-kun, I never knew you can do so well in English class,” Aki said after class was over.

“English is pretty easy for me.”

“From someone who has a personal tutor!” Crow babbled.

“Shut up!”

“So, next class is Ushio-sensei,” Aki read from her memory.

“Finally some fun,” Jack said happily, crackling his two fists one by one.

“Oh, yah,” Crow followed.

“Really?”

Aki, Crow, and Jack had just arrived outside the locker room hallways. They were near the back end of the building. This special hallway splits into three identical paths. One was the staircases, one to the left toward the female locker room, and one to the right toward the male locker room. From inside both locker rooms, there are doors that connect to the gymnasium in the basement of the huge complex.

“Aki!” Yusei called.

“Yusei-kun!”

“Yo, Yusei!”

“Yusei!”

“Hey everyone,” the twins yelled as they raced around the corner.

“Rua! Ruka!”

“So everyone is back together?” Aki asked.

“Nope,” Yusei answered, which got a look of curiosity from Aki.

“What do you mean?”

“Kiryu still haven’t come yet.”

“Who’s Kiryu?”

“He’s one of our friends,” Crow answered. “Since we’re like little kids.”

As if on cue, Kiryu ran down the hallway panting before stopping in front of the group. “Sorry guys. I was just finished flirting with a cute bitch.”

“Kiryu! I don’t understand you sometimes,” Ruka said.

“What don’t you understand?”

“That you sometimes flirt with me, but then flirt with some other girl!”

“What? Flirt with you? When?”

“Last summer when you ‘accidentally’ touch my chest!”

“Oh, I still remember that!” Rua growled, glaring deeply into Kiryu’s eyes.

“Calm down,” Kiryu quickly said, putting his hands in a gesture to calm down, but then quickly caught Aki, whom was looking at him with a disgusted face. “Oh, who are you?”

“Our new friend,” Crow answered but then blocked Aki with his body. “But you’re not going to flirt with her, you stupid bastard!”

“What? Me, bastard? Are you trying to get into a fight with me?”

“Wrap it up. Wrap it up,” Yusei and Rua chanted together.

“So, we should get going,” Aki said, wanting to get away from the leader of Team Satisfaction.

“Right,” Yusei agreed. “Let’s go.” Everyone nodded, and they went into their respective locker rooms.

“Ruka-chan, why do they hate Ushio-sensei so much?” Aki asked as they opened the door into the locker room.

“Ruka-chan?!”

“That’s what you get for calling me Aki-san where I keep on telling you not to.”

Ruka put on her puppy face and stared deeply into Aki’s eyes. “Aki, please…”

Aki took a glance at Ruka and gaped at her sudden innocence and her enlarged, sparkling eyes. She hated these faces especially if they were good ones like hers when she was younger. “Fine, I surrender!”

Ruka’s face returned to her default smile. “Thank you, Aki-san!”

Aki frowned. “You’re welcome…”

“Anyway…well, nobody likes that idiot!”

“Why?”

Ruka shrugged. “He has this certain demeanor that just makes him really uncomfortable to be with. That feeling is what everyone hates about. Everyone feels it, probably except for her manager, Mikage-san. Ushio also acts like what he is expected: pretty mean, stubborn, and flat-out ridiculous. He makes you do one of the most outrageous things like climbing the flags or even forcing us to touch the top of the basketball hoops!”

“Must be pretty harsh.”

“You bet!”

“I see, well then, hello Izayoi Aki.”

Aki rose up from her bow with a neutral look on her head as she takes her second look at Ushio-sensei. He was a big, tall, muscular man about somewhere in his 40s. His large scar on the left side of his face did not go unnoticed from behind the black hair that fell downward onto his forehead and all the way near the back but tied in a certain way that makes his hairstyle recognizable and acceptable. He was wearing a white muscle shirt similar to Jack, gray sweatpants, and white sneakers.

“Yes, Ushio-sensei.” And Aki walked away back towards the gang.

“How was it Aki?” Crow asked.

“Nothing special.”

“Oh, he’s just hiding it….”

“You!” Ushio-sensei called, walking toward the gang pointing at Jack. “Atlas!”

“Oh, brother…” Jack mumbled.

“Did you just called me a vagina in one of your classes?! Someone told me that just a period ago! Is that true?”

Everyone in the group cannot help but chuckled, especially Crow and Kiryu who didn’t knew about what happened in Placido’s class.

“Did I tell any of you to laugh?” Ushio questioned furiously.

“No, sir,” said everyone except Jack with apathy.

“Well then?” Ushio turned his head and returned his attention to Jack, whom was leaning against the cold wall looking calm and collective.

“I’m not going to comment,” Jack said.

“You fag!”

“Harsh words, you got there teacher, harsh words…”

Ushio put his hand over his mouth in realization that he broke the rule of cursing at a student.

“Sucker!” Kiryu yelled and laughed in his usual evil manner. The others just rolled their eyes at him.

“Butt off!” Ushio returned. “EVERYONE! Get into your floor spot positions. That includes you, Izayoi! Row 28B is your floor spot.”

The gym was a vast basketball court with three pairs of basketball hoops: one opposite of each other on the long regular basketball court with two pairs on the side. The floor was wooden tiles placed elegantly with one other that has a slick feeling on top that makes the gym a traditional basketball court. Everyone wore the same gym clothes of gray wool sweatpants, a white T-shirt with the school’s logo, and regular sneakers. Aki had already been informed that when they began their first sport, she can have the choice of either the sweatpants or shorts.

There were surprisingly fewer students than Aki originally expected as she discovered about 28 rows that has three students each with a couple of rows that has four. Ushio must have line them up in alphabetical order since the gang were all scattered around. Yusei was somewhere around the middle, Jack the front at floor spot 1A-like 1 Atlas-Kiryu and Crow were also near the middle, and the twins were the nearest to Aki at around the 22nd row.

There were large rectangular windows in the gym that were slightly open to let in a little breeze, which were covered by metal fences to prevent any students from manually opening them. There were also bleachers alongside the four side basketball hoops. In one corner was the stand holding the large Japanese flag; its beautiful red circle-being the sun-signified the beginning of new adventures with her new friends while the white surrounding the circle being a new coat of light, or a fresh background. On the opposite corner is the American flag; its upper-blue rectangle with 50 stars represents the growing friendship between them and the future, and the red and white stripes matches the Japanese representation of the red and white perfectly.

“All right, you guys,” Ushio said. “This week will be our last week of fitness before we head to our first unit which is basketball.”

Aki groaned. She hated basketball. If anything, she could only get one shot in from about thirty tries. She just feels awkward aiming the ball into the hoop. Don’t get her wrong, she enjoys shooting paper balls into the trash can inches away but not a basketball into a hoop. All she could do is pass and catch soft passes. Thank goodness basketball is a week away. Basketball is a man sport, Aki thought.

“All right, I got all the attendance,” Ushio muttered as he put down his attendance sheet. “Everyone, get into lines! We will begin some jogging.”

Some groaned but Aki smiled. She loved moving her legs. She could see Crow whispering something into Jack’s ear as they formed their lines, and Jack was smiling as he nodded. Whatever they were saying must be pretty funny to make fun of the teacher, Aki thought.

Ushio stay seated at his place on the bleachers with a pissed-off face as everywhere were in six lines running the long way down from one end of the basketball hoop to the other perpendicular to Ushio. Aki was in the fifth row behind five other people while the others were on different rows. Jack and Crow were on the first row closest to Ushio, Yusei and Kiryu were on the second row, and Rua and Ruka were on the third row. She should have been on the third row with Ruka, Aki thought nervously.

“You know the drill,” Ushio yapped, seeming to have forgotten about Aki. He blew the whistle that surrounded his neck.

Aki snapped back into attention and paid close attention to the first person on the line. She began five jumping jacks, then dropped for three push-ups, then one sit-up before standing back up, and jogged to the end of the gym before heading back, and the whole cycle continues.

Pretty odd but simple enough, Aki thought. Everything was going smoothly when Aki was the next one up. She has already seen Yusei, Kiryu, and Rua did their thing and now was waiting for her turn. It was then Jack and Crow’s prank began.

Everyone was giggling as both skipped their warm ups and immediately ran toward the end of the end of the gym…with Crow on Jack’s back calling Ushio a coward.

“What the hell?!” Ushio yelled.

“Ushio is a vagina!” Crow yelled, riding on Jack’s back.

“Ushio is a gay man hoping to attract men by buying himself a vagina!” Jack followed.

“You bloodsuckers!” Ushio frantically began to look around for anything as his rage was further fueled by the laughter and pointing of fingers at the two troublemakers and himself.

“Ah ha! I got you two now Atlas, Hogan.” Ushio grabbed a large textbook that was just next to him and ran toward the Crow and Jack, whom didn’t noticed Ushio because they were having so much fun mocking him. They were about to meet a couple of inches away from the main six lines laughing.

“CROW-KUN!” Aki yelled through the noise, which didn’t go unnoticed by Crow when he snap himself back into attention…then he saw Ushio coming at them with a huge textbook about three thousands pages not including the hard-wooden cover.

“Ushio is a big asshole and needs plastic surgery for a vagina on his fac-OH, SHIT!” Crow looked on at horror as Jack failed to pick up the warning as he is too tired to hear while tugging and powering his way toward the finish line.

Ushio then-with an evil grin on his face-threw the textbook very hard at Crow’s face like a quarterback throws a football. The throw just missed the target and collided with Jack’s middle part of the back under the shoulder blades instead, which was holding Crow, at a high speed as the sound of Jack’s back being hit squarely with the book spine was heard throughout the gym, which was now silent. Jack let out a cry of pain and a loud “ouch” before Crow fall off of him and hit a couple of girls in the crowd while Jack tripped because of his already imbalanced body caused by the hard impact of the massive textbook and crash-landed into a bunch of students like an airplane would during an emergency landing.

It can be said that Crow would be all right, and Jack would just need some ice. In any words, nobody was seriously injured including the students that were hit by Crow’s and Jack’s crash. It can also be said that Ushio is having some serious explaining to do about his job security to his manager and crush Mikage-san, and also the principal.

“Well, that sucked,” Kiryu said as he ate his rice with fried fish.

“Definitely,” Jack hissed with a hint of pain in his voice. His back was covered with at least 5 ice packs being held by bands around his chest. Yusei, Crow, Kiryu, and Rua had been constantly telling him to go rest, but Jack insisted to stay.

“Jack, for the love of god! Go rest! You’re hurt!” Crow snapped.

“No!”

“I never knew that that Ushio-bastard would do something that horrible to Crow-kun,” Aki said, very angry a teacher would do that to one of her new friends.

“Me neither. It’s a first for all of us,” Yusei said, trying to lessen the situation.

They were all enjoying, or at least trying to, their lunch in the boys’ lunchroom. It was the average lunch of rice with fried fish as the main course. There were also noodles, broccoli, and tofu with soy sauce.

According to the school policy, lunch can be eaten indoors or out, except for extreme weather conditions. Also, anyone can eat in the boys’ lunchroom including the girls, which boys gladly welcome with seductive glares, but only girls can eat in the girls’ lunchroom, much to the boys’ annoyance.

“Why couldn’t boys have lunch in the female dorm lunchroom?!” Kiryu complained for the tenth time today.

“Well duh! It’s the golden rule: girls and children first, men last!” Crow recited.

“Aren’t we still children?” Rua asked.

“Momma’s boy,” Jack said.

“Hey!”

“I swear! Whoever made that rule, if that person was a man, he must have had sex five hundred times!” Kiryu said.

“Geez!” Ruka spit out after she drank some of her green tea. “You men have no sense of manners!”

“Who the fuck cares?!”

Yusei rolled his eyes. “Anyway, so Aki, how do you feel about our school?”

Aki was halfway through her rice and tofu with a bit of soy sauce but responded, “I like it. I like the culture. You’re great friends. This school have great classrooms, teaching, and teachers except bastard Ushio.”

Jack chuckled. “Look at what we got here. Another Ushio hater. Not surprised.”

“No duh!” Crow repeated. “Everyone hates Ushio! Even the fuckin’ principal! How Ushio was never fired yet, I have no idea!”

“It’s probably Mikage-san,” Yusei suggested.

“That woman?” Jack questioned.

“I think she likes him.”

Everyone gaped at Yusei’s suggestion. Aki couldn’t believe anyone could ever like a bastard as he is.

“That explains a lot.”

Jack, again, cringed as another one of those painful jolts coursed around his body freely.

“Jack, for hell’s sake. GO upstairs and do anything you like! Heck, watch porn if you want. I don’t care! I hate seeing you in pain! Just…don’t be a jackass…”

“Crowshit!”

“Crowshit?” Aki covered her mouth to try to cover the amusement in her voice at Jack’s nickname for Crow.

“You know…the shit of a crow or otherwise…” Jack pointed at a gaped Crow whose cheeks were inflaming. Crow blushed while everyone began to snicker, including Aki whose composure failed to hold up. This is the third time Crow has been embarrassed today…on the first day she meet Aki, a person he wants to be good friends with…he’s getting sick of it.

“Shut the fuck up, Jack!”

“Whatever crowshit!”

“Oh, that’s it! Fight me!” Crow stood up and caught a couple of people’s attention.

“You’re on!” Jack stood up as well even though he whimpered a couple of times with the heavy ice packs on his back.

“Guys, we aren’t supposed to be fighting!” Rua cried as he also stood up.

“Keep yourself out of this!” Rua stepped back in slight fear at the two men’s sudden roughness.

“You two!” Yusei roared as he stood up as well. Now everyone was watching them as they were very interested into what’s going to happen. “How dare you scare my son! Now you two would have to face me!”

“Did he just call you his ‘son’?” Ruka asked as she put her hand softly over her mouth to prevent herself from laughing loudly.

Rua blushed at Yusei’s broken promise from earlier this morning. “Yusei!”

Aki couldn’t help but smiled at this disruption of flow. She needed something to laugh at since Ushio pretty much drained the gang’s energy with the single hard throw of a textbook.

“Son of a dick!” Crow cussed at Rua.

“Wow, Crow. Son of a dick? How creativity. Now I really want to destroy you for calling that to my son!”

“Yusei!” Rua complained again.

“Guys, stop this already,” Kiryu commanded. “I would usually enjoy watching you three destroy each other, but Jack is hurt, so cut this shit!”

“Kiryu is right!” Rua said as he ran to hug Crow to try to get the same effect as he had on Jack.

Jack saw this and his eyes continued to burn as its fuel is converted from self-pride to jealously. But before he went toward them, Kiryu stood up and block Jack’s path. Jack would normally punch him but his muscles are aching too badly to perform a decent punch. And besides, Kiryu would block it with one hand. Ruka also stood up and hold one of Yusei’s hands tightly. Yusei would look at Ruka’s hand and her expression on her face, then realizing his negative feelings before he then began to take deep breaths to calm himself down.

When they all calm down after a couple of seconds, they looked around and sweat-dropped at everyone looking at them with mixed looks, mostly amusing ones. They all realized they were all standing up wither trying to get to or preventing a fight; Aki was the only one who didn’t stand up in the table. They all sat back down and Yusei called, “Please ignore what you saw! Just continue doing what you were doing before Crow messed up!”

“What did you say?” Crow asked in surprise. But the message was effective as the motions of the cafeteria slowly resumed back to normal pace, and the noise level rose to their normal value.

“Oh, my god. That was messed up,” Crow mumbled as he put his head down.

“Told you.”

Crow snapped his head back up in annoyance.

“Ah crap, I’m sorry if this isn’t what you’re really expecting Aki,” Ruka said. “We never guess that incident would have such an effect on us.”

“Don’t worry. In fact, I think we all needed that. It was getting pretty boring. It seems Jack’s injury suck the life out of you guys.”

Yusei nodded. “We are all like family. Whenever one is injured or down, we are all affected no matter how stupid the person is.”

“God damnit! I’m really starting to consider doing the ultimate prank on Ushio,” Kiryu said.

“Not now! Not until the end of the year would we put that into consideration!” Crow said quickly, putting his hands on his head in surprise.

“Ultimate prank,” Aki repeated. “What is that?” It’s pretty obvious, but she wants more detail.

“Ultimate prank,” Ruka said. “It’s the biggest prank the guys put on only at the end of the year. It affects the entire school, not just one person.”

“Really? What was last year’s?”

Everyone began to chuckle as they remembered that mischievous collection of small pranks the gang did last year that was put together into one large disaster for the environment of the school and the people inhabiting it. Aki began to feel lonely that she is being left out of the fun. “Come on! Tell me!”

“We’ll tell you later after class!” Crow said after calming down.

“Why? Why not now?”

“Look around. The next period is starting.”

Crow was referring to the number of students dumping out their garbage and leaving the cafeteria with satisfied faces, at least appetite-wise. Some couples were talking softly to each other in the corner kissing occasionally while some are fully making out in clear view as their way of saying goodbye. The staff and janitors were walking around cleaning the place with a mop, a spray cleaner, a rag, and gloves.

“Ah shit!”

“Don’t worry. We will tell you soon enough,” Jack said as he went to dump his food into the garbage. “What’s your next class, Izayoi?”

Aki took out her crusty folded piece of paper out of her top uniform and read, “World History Class with Z-one-sensei.”

“This day just keeps getting better,” Kiryu said rather dreamily.

Crow noticed and punch Kiryu’s side lightly.

“Ouch! What the hell was that for?”

“For being your usual bastard-self.”

“What did you say?” Kiryu asked, starting to get pissed-off. “After I literally saved your life earlier?”

“Save me from a fuck-ass with a broken chest?” Crow said mockingly. “I don’t think so!”

“CROW! Don’t start it!” Yusei and Rua were holding Jack back, whom was getting his anger reignited by Crow’s latest dialogue.

“You literally suck on too many vaginas on the computer today!” Kiryu continued.

“Agreed,” Jack agreed without regret.

Crow, however, wasn’t listening because Aki was holding him back and was fluttering. Aki released him and grabbed his shoulders.

“Why?” Aki asked, ignoring the latest disruption, heading straight to the point.

“That’s our class!” Yusei, Crow, Jack, and Kiryu sang.

“Aww, let me see that thing,” Ruka asked.

Aki gave her the schedule, and Ruka checked carefully. “Awww, we won’t meet each other again until last period flight class with Aporia-sensei.”

Aki frowned knowing that she won’t have any more classes with her new roommate until the very last period, which is about four classes away.

“But the good thing is that all of us have that class with Aporia-sensei,” Yusei informed.

“Really?”

“Yes.”

Aki smiled. “You’re right. Everyone just keeps getting better…my new best friends.” She held her arms out in anticipation hoping that they will know what she is telling them.

Fortunately, everyone knows, and they did their first group hug.

“My new family.”
