So I took my final for Bad Girls today. I think it went pretty well. One of the worst parts about Winter Session is that you only have one weekend before the spring semester starts.

Am I excited for the semester? Mostly. I'm not looking forward to all the traffic and the fake people and having multiple classes to manage and the parties that are lame as SHIT, along with the probable sleep deprivation. I can't wait to see everyone again though, and hopefully meet new and interesting people, particularly people that have actually been outside of the tri-state area at least once in their lives (which is apparently a rarity at this school). ROTC will be a bit of a mixed bag. It's supposed to be my busiest semester since it's the last semester before going to camp, but I don't think it'll be that bad. I won't be as active with extracurriculars this semester, which will help a lot. Last semester I did stuff with Pershing Rifles (I was the commander), Ranger Company (I was a squad leader), Ranger Challenge and the Ten Miler Team (both of which I came out for, although the Colonel ultimately made me drop them because he felt it was more important to have a "squared-away PR commander"). I won't be doing Ranger Company this semester, and that one omission will probably add almost an extra day to my week. Let's look at a typical week this past fall while a member of Ranger Company:

-Monday: Leadership meeting, usually a half-assed waste of time, anywhere from 5-11pm.

-Tuesday: Preparations and in-progress reviews with tyrannical cadre (like Captain E), to take up the bulk of the afternoon.

-Wednesday: Squad meeting, lasting around 9-10pm. Go to bed early due to having to wake up early.

-Thursday: Ranger Company, 0600-0730am (often ending late). Often do laundry and shine boots in order to look nice for lead lab 4-6pm.

-Friday: Ranger Company, 430-630pm. Arrive early, and get out late. Also, get bitched at a lot and for no good reason by insecure "men" with a very hardcore and out-of-control "my dick is bigger than yours" syndrome. Going out that night is rarely an option due to exhaustion.

There's also the FTX that devours an entire weekend (followed by six to seven hours of torturous and monotonous weapon cleaning), but that's only once a semester.

As you can plainly see, Ranger Company, a 1-credit (or even no-credit) "class" easily requires more time and effort than a lot of other people's classes combined. Bear in mind that on top of all this, I was taking four classes and also getting up at 6am on MWF for regular ROTC PT (or every single day for Ranger Challenge). Now, don't get me wrong. Ranger Company is by no means a waste of time and I don't regret having done it for the last five semesters in a row. You learn a lot about tactics, leadership and time management; but I've learned all that I can from it by this point. Thankfully I'm not gonna be the PR commander this semester...that was pretty bad too. Typically, last semester it would be around 11pm on a Thursday night and some colonel would call my cell phone and say, "By the way, you have an eight-man color guard fully trained and ready to perform tomorrow morning at 0615, right?" And naturally, it'll be the first I've heard of it, and I'll have to bend over backwards to get people to help out with the color guard, because heaven forbid someone have to wake up early one day a week (as opposed to four or five).

That's another thing that annoys me. I'm pretty much the only cadet ever to have been involved in EVERY SINGLE extracurricular and I get chewed out for the most trivial things; there's other assholes that don't even show up to MANDATORY events and no one even says a thing to them. Ah well, there's a reason for everything, I guess.

Anyway, enough whining. Bring on the spring semester.
