I had another amazing day.
[here's the view from my window, by the way...]
After the tour of the
view of the old city from my walk to class [zoomed in quite a bit]
a view of new Jerusalem from Ancient Jerusalem.
the bus ride there
the wall they're building to separate Jerusalem from the west bank.
just outside the zion gate.
all these bullet holes are from the war of independence.
the jewish quarter. [which is much different looking than the muslim quarter. I need to get more pictures]
pre-byzantine pillars.
same.
my friend catching a photo-op.
what's left of the wall king david snuck into to conquer back Jerusalem. The wall was only about as tall as the top of that striped pole.
more Jewish quarter.
it says "happy holiday"
she followed our group around.
the destination says: "meah sha'arim" the famous hasidic neighborhood.
tourist 5000. Oh, I just had to do it.
temple mount
the women's side is about a third the size of the men's.
Unrelated, but this looks JUST like my cat. =(
Kotel, telephone wires... to that pigeon, it's all the same.
, I had shabbat dinner at a buffet at the hotel across the street with a bunch of kids from the International School. Potatoes, stuffed artichoke, couscous, watermellon, roasted onions and peppers, mmm.
After a rest, I drank a bit with some kids I've met, and as two students walked by, we said "Shabbat Shalom."
The boys looked at us and smiled, "No, Allah." They said.
They noticed we were [obviously] not Israeli, and we introduced ourselves as American. They [Salekh and Derek] said they had a friend in Utah and we all got to talking.
They invited me over to smoke Nagilla [hookah] at their place and we talked for hours about politics in Israel, religion, school, everything. It was just an amazing experience. American media portrays Israelis and Palestinians only through the actions of the extremists from each group. I can't explain how different actually being in the country and talking to the people makes me feel. More later. It's time for bed-- I'm still on Florida time and I'm going to shull tomorrow morning with some friends.
CLasses begin Sunday, I can't wait =)!!
