Letter to Grieg Smith, L.A. City Council Member
Mr. Smith,
Thank you for your "no" vote regarding the boycott of Arizona, in response to the state's recent passage of SB 1070. I completely agree with your stance that it is a "non-related social issue." Although you were the only city council member who voted with logic, rather than playing politics in a display for our large Latino community, I am left wondering how many non-essential contracts Los Angeles has with other states. Given the massive fiscal deficit, might deals with states similar to those that Los Angeles has with Arizona be dropped to help close the budget gap?
