I am frustrated.

I’m glad I decided to take this political science class, even though I’m doing a crappy job. That’s my fault, though. I’m just not interested in every aspect of the topic. What I am interested in, though, is the problems that we face everyday, problems that have changed our lives since 2001.

First of all, the stupid Skittles color-coded terror alert chart needs to be eliminated. The government needs to stop riding off of the fear of the American public. Even when the terror alert has been elevated, which is almost always, what has that lead to, really? Information is so scarce and ambiguous, the entire country is expected to cower in fear and watch for any “suspicious activity” ranging from large, essential, industrial cities like, uhh, you know, Middletown, Ohio to smaller towns like Monroe, Ohio and Monowi, Nebraska.

The Patriot Act needs to be repealed. Rather than pilfering through lists of who checked out what book at the library, maybe, you know, books teaching you how to build bombs shouldn’t be in the library to begin with. Let’s stop laying down and allowing our freedoms to be violated.

It’s like people have given up and forgotten what’s happened. It’s like the search is over. F Iraq. Why are American soldiers there again.. really? Why don’t we ever hear anything about Afghanistan anymore? Oh yeah, that’s probably because it took two months to start the “war on terror”, which is understandable, possibly reasonable, but that's when the enemy got away. But what is not understandable is that just 11,000 troops were searching for one man in a country that occupies 647,000 square miles, and it's not okay just to give up. Justice needs to be served, in not in a half-assed way. I'm sure the soldiers do a great job, as they are told, but I'm sure focus by the administration is lacking more and more as time marches on.

I don’t get it.

What can we do? Things have to change, or we are going to find ourselves in a much worse place than ever before. Even now, most of our government bonds are being bought up by foreign investors, Saudi Arabia, China. Supposedly Saudi Arabia has nearly $1 trillion dollars tied up in the U.S. What will that do for our future? What happens when everyone wants to cash in during a recession?

We could always write the members of congress so at least they know how the people who put them in office feel, although I tried that a couple of months ago and never heard anything back. Surprise, surprise. I wrote to tell one of the state congressmen that he should stop wasting his time on stupid legislation because he was trying to pass a state law that is already covered in federal civil rights legislation.

I’m just really fed up right now. I need to fire off some more letters. I’m sick of this. And don't be upset. You're allowed to have an opinion, as am I.
