Pomp and Splendour

Jan 13, 2009 14:24

This gala promises to be a gala like none that have come before. Weeks have been spent in preparation, and the kitchens have been working at full strength throughout the day to produce the most exotic foods for their guests to sample. In the great hall, the decorations have not been spared, and the pageantry lavish; great tables line its perimeter ( Read more... )

Young Sir Richard is somewhat annoyed at the lack of a fanfare to announce his presence - he's been the squire to the land's greatest nights, an accomplished troubador, a man of a thousand talents - and an ego near to match.

He snaps his fingers to bring one of the servants to his side, claiming a cup of wine from the tray, and sipping it as he looks around the room.

"La, Sir Richard." The white-haired beauty flirts her fan at him. "Such a face should not be spoiled by such a stormy expression."

Miguel might be checked out of the suitor search now that he's caught sight of the bright-haired woman in the unbelievable corset.

"I may have just reconsidered my stance on these fashions."

"Sometimes, fair lady, I think that my life is cursed. To be bound to attend gala after gala, as a sort of penance for the excitement of my younger days. Not to say that there aren't bright spots.."

Felicia tosses her hair, careful not to dislodge any of its carefully arranged curls too much. "If your life is a curse, sir knight, 'twould certainly be a blessing for those less favored than you." She gives him an impish look. "And which of our royal bright spots do you hope will favor you now?"

Miguel glances to the pointy-eared man at his side, then gives a slight nod towards the white-haired beauty and her conversation mate.

"This guy has no taste for pomp and circumstance. That's a point in his favor."

Try not to stare at her.

Green eyes peep at Miguel over the scalloped edge of her fan.

He's been spotted. But he manages to remain nonchalant, with a small grin.

This timestream's already doomed unless they fix things, right? How much damage could fornication do?

The glance didn't go unnoticed.

"Strange new guests - I don't recall having seen them before. If you find out anything particularly interesting from them, it might brighten my evening were you to share the tale.."

"Ah, Sir Richard," says Felicia lightly, "of what worth is a tale that changes hands too many times? Like a woman, is it not most valuable when it is safely guarded for the sake of the few, or the one?"

...

It's going to be difficult to get used to this world of humans described as property.

Still... no better way to figure out if someone's worth enough of a damn to marry a mercurial princess than to go talk to them.

Miguel finds himself a reasonable posture and casually walks over to the chatting pair.

"And what, pray tell, might be of interest to you, sir?"

Why he suddenly decided to affect a Spanish accent is a mystery even to him.

"I know most everyone who attends this sort of party, sir - and your face is unfamiliar to me. How came you to be here?"

Namor follows behind Miguel carefully and quietly - for now. There will be plenty to say in the future, he is certain. If the other man wishes to lead and appreciate the female form, he certainly won't object.

The white-haired lady does not precisely withdraw from the conversation, but careful observers may note that her green-eyed gaze has grown a little sharper as she watches the newcomers.

Paige will not have it.

There is a cute man down there and she will inspect his worthiness for herself. None of this prancing about dealing with the escorts and guards. She flounces from her balcony perch, but not before giving her siblings a sound glare, and considers peeling a few layers of mold from her hands to leave in Joeline's breakfast tomorrow morning.

"Many painful days of travel, sir," he says, somewhat startled as to how easily he's channeling old movies. "I am Sir Miguel de Cervantes."

Eh, why not? Using 'O'Hara' will likely get him hanged for miscegenation.

"Pleased to make your acquaintance, sir... ?" he adds, offering his hand in greeting.
