As the duke leaves, intent on the need to contact the king, Wanda offers a hospitable smile to the strangers. "Are you hungry? I can have Agatha see what is ready to eat in the kitchens, or you can sup later ( Read more... )

"Thank you, ma'am. Whatever you might have would be just fine." Her accent is heavy and she smiles uneasily at the other woman.

"If you are thirsty, there is wine, beer, tea ... pray forgive me, mistress, but by what name may I call you?"

"The name's Marie, Marie LeBeau. And tea would be nice."

"Tea, then." She pulls on a twill bellrope, and when the serving woman enters, she requests tea to be brought for their guests. "Are any among you injured? I have some of the physician's knowledge...."

"Oh, you're a doctor?" Marie's interest perks up and she looks directly at the other woman. "Ah'm a bit of a doctor myself, back home. And to be straight with ya..." She runs a gloved hand through her hair. "I didn't think to check the others."

Namor approaches the two ladies, clearing his throat softly, "I would appreciate a glass of water, though tea would suffice."

"A pitcher of spring water, and several cups," Wanda requests, then looks briefly at the prince. "Is there any other refreshment our house may offer Your Highness? I fear we are unaccustomed to hosting royalty."

"No need to put yourself to any specific trouble, my lady. I am not here formally." Namor smiles cordially toward Wanda. It does actually give him a small pang to know that this woman is not his friend, not his lover.

Her mouth twists into a bitter smile. Easy to see who got preferential treatment around here.

The woman returns after a few minutes with a tray featuring a frosted cold pitcher and glasses balanced carefully on one hand, and a platter of cold cuts, meats and cheeses with freshly-baked bread and a bowl of seasoned olive oil on the other. The entirety is set down on the elaborately carved oaken table in the center of the room. Another girl appears, this time bringing decanter of wine, a jug of fresh-brewed beer, and the requested tea, with its attendant service.

Namor takes a glass of water and drinks from it, draining the glass. He refills the glass himself from the pitcher and slides his fingers into the water. He's aware that this is likely strange but it helps him.

Marie moves past him and pours herself a cup of tea, slipping in a few sugar cubes.

"So what do you think of this whole thing?"

"I really do not know what I think of it. The timing of it is less than fortunate and the reality seems absurd." Pressing his lips together, he keeps his fingers in the water a little longer before he flicks some of it on his face.

"But then again, I cannot come up with anything other than what has been presented to us as the solution."

Looking at him with a puzzled expression, she moves closer.

"Why do you keep doin' that? With the water?"

"I am from an underwater country. While I can spend long periods of time out of water, I like to hydrate as much as possible while I am in the air." Namor smiles toward her.

Spidey is listening quietly, not asking for anything. Trying to learn about these new people - a doctor is good, a gun-toting one is a little worrisome.

Namor. Now he remembers the name... and the mess his successor Roman brought upon New York, with a damn conch shell that controlled monsters. This guy is a bit unnerving.

"What kind of doctor, Marie?"
