Forgive me oh
Kibo for I have sinned. It has been two weeks since my last update...
I've had a houseguest for the last nine days, which has put a cramp in my lifestyle, but they left this morning, so things are back to normal. I have a glass of acceptable red.
catnip_mouse is in the kitchen working on steaks in red wine sauce, after reading somewhere that a small amount of dark chocolate added to the flavour. Later, I will be making a 3rd attempt at
tarte tatin (this time not leaving the caramel to set while I do something else - hopefully I'll get it right), and watching the first two episodes of the Sarah Connor Chronicles. And BitTorrent is running and getting down the last episode of Torchwood (and tomorrow morning, the first of the new Dr Who).
What have I been doing in the meantime?
- infecting people with hot chocolate recipes. People really seem to like the Spanish.
- watching Terry Pratchett's The Colour of Magic. It's not as good as Hogfather, but still pretty good. I am now looking forward to Going Postal.
- re-reading The Colour of Magic and The Light Fantastic. There is a remarkable difference in tone between early Pratchett (which is really just a piss-take on classic fantasy) and the later stuff.
- planning hook-ups with other gamers. Ruth H put us on to another KapCon attendee who was lonely and needs a group, while we're also doing boardgaming with
superlate 's relatives.
- getting infected with gamer nostalgia.
catnip_mouse read Dragons of Autumn Twilight, which caused me to haul down my complete set of Dragonlance modules and read them. They're quite remakable for AD&D1 for actually managing to tell a story rather than being just a dangerous hole in the ground. It's been suggested that I run them, but that'll need at least six players (Caramon/Raistlin and Goldmoon/Riverwind double up), which just doesn't seem to be possible ATM.
- mastering foccaccia-fu. I made this a few times, using a half-mix of the recipe from The Destitute Gourmet 2, flavoured with fresh rosemary and thyme, and topped with rock salt. The herbs smell beautiful when I chop them (just imagine me doing a line of them through a rolled up hundred dollar bill), but lack oomph. Next time I'll use dried. The bread though is pretty good.
Smells like dinner's ready.
Drinking: Bell Bird Bay Hawkes Bay Merlot 2006 (dark, bitter, quite drinkable)
