Ouch. J'lor burned him. I think he expects Derek to be mad, but not for him to be hurt. I really like the bit where Derek is studying himself in the water. Assessing.

It's so very sad, but beautifully written - him studying his reflection, the doubt on Nera, the very last line. Nicely done.

He's going to be sad all the time when Zoma's gone. It's hard to find a good jester. :)

Luckily I've got someone /equally/ as helpful ready to make his life easier when he makes it to the mainland! :P

Oh, Derek. I love him with the timbermen. Fake it 'til you make it, sometimes. Of course he had to tell them it was all his idea.

He's right, the way he thinks of himself and Nera. They were nothing, until this made them something. I'm fascinated by his response to this possibility, and what Nera might make of it. I wonder what he would have said at this point, if he'd known how things were going to pan out over the next couple of months.
