So, I'm down in St Petersburg, FL looking for an actual location to set up a practice with my business partner. It looks like it's too soon to really be looking, when I don't actually graduate until the end of Sept. I did manage to meet up with a rennie friend, find excellent places to eat, go to the beach, get completely hammered in a local dive bar on my 40th, and scout out residential locations for when I'm ready to move here. Gulfport, it turns out, is the perfect neighborhood for a NOLA transplant. I found it through a hammered dulcimer player named Misti when I went to GARF last time. This neighborhood has huge sprawling live oaks that are dripping spanish moss. The streets are a maze - not a grid, and if you turn down random alleys, you see front doors to houses you wouldn't know were there. There is a little strip of a street with random shops that include smalltown bar/restaurants, art galleries, coffee/tea shops, and an apothecary compounding pharmacist. The beach is within walking distance, and the huge building which claims to be a casino has argentine tango every tue night, swing dancing every wed night, and salsa every thur night.
