Caught up in the throes of avid thesis/article writing, I find my mind returning to 2001, when I was in a manic high state completing my honours thesis. I was composing a playlist of all the songs that I can write to, that allow me to get into the geeky PhD groove and let my creative/analytical juices flow. I listen to these songs over and over again, a soothing background track while my mind chugs away. I'm very fussy about what I choose - I have to like it, it has to blend well into the background, not be too discordant, and it has to be conducive to study - so no heavy metal here! That's music to research to, not write to!
I was looking my playlist over when I realised that some of the songs were the same ones I used in my honours year for the same reason, but many of them were also different. So, for your amusement (or not), here is the music that wrote me a thesis (and a damn good one, too, if I do say so myself)!
Songs:
Last Impression by Two Mix
Hyperballad by Bjork
Silence by Delirium featuring Sarah McLachlan
Bye Bye Bye by NSync
Blue Velvet by Megumi Hashibara
Angels (We Used to Be)
High by Feeder
Children of the Dawn
Hikari No Willpower
Slingshot Swing by Zebrahead
Albums:
Moulin Rouge Soundtrack
Jesus Christ Superstar soundtrack - hey, it's thematic!
Singles of the 90's by Ace of Base - their greatest hits
Love Versus Money by Noiseworks
Greatest Hits by Noiseworks
Bat Out of Hell by Meatloaf
These aren't the only songs I listened to all year, just those I listened to A LOT. Especially Bjork, Sarah McLachlan, Two Mix and the Moulin rouge Soundtrack.
I know at least two of you can respond to this! What's the soundtrack you geek to?
