I would also have liked to see more discussion about what constitutes a queer film--there was discussion about documentaries, so clearly both fiction and non-fiction films count ( Read more... )

You know I watched that movie. It was on the motel HBO or something when I stayed for my interview and looked interesting enough so I watched.

But what about films that deny that they want intimate relations with other films of the same type? One rationale that's been advanced for the close connection between musical theater and gayness is not just that musicals featured lots of sexy men who were also graceful and affectionate, but precisely the sense of artifice, distance, and having a lot going on beneath the surface.

Those are Closet Queer films. Perhaps one day they will have the courage to admit their desires. I suspect one connection between musical theater and gayness is that they play roles with their hearts, but pretend they are merely acting.

I never actually saw Culkin in any of his Humungous Child Star movies, but I think he was very grounded and believable here.

I'm thinking of him more in his indie roles like Party Monster, with Seth Green.

I also have naughty, naughty feelings for his little brother Rory.

I was expecting kind of a "look at the stupid Fundies!" hatchet job, and it really isn't--I saw a lot of affection for confused people trying to do the right thing.
