Only a couple of short days had dragged on, and the blinding sun was finally dipping it's feet into the horizon, spreading an egg-yolk gold onto the ocean's depths. Roji knew; he had been watching it since he stopped looking for Muhyo just hours before it began to set. His chest exhaled, an exhausted sigh passing his lips, rippling over his ribs and empty chest. The sand was gratefully soft, but not too comfortable. He felt he circled most of the island; so where exactly was Muhyo...?
Unlike Roji, Muhyo was under the cover of trees. He was also much less concerned about the whereabouts of his assistant. What he was concerned about however, was the humidity. Wiping a hand over his forehead, he marched through the dirt, looking for a place without blaring sunlight. It was quite the task, seeing as all the leaves were paper thin and let in about as much light as would be there if there were no foliage. He sighed, plopping down near the edge of the forest as the sun was starting to set.
Each quiet rustle of the waves seemed to last longer than the next, barely breaching the shore yet pulling back enough to leave the black em pass of silky wet sand in it's wake. Roji couldn't look at it for long; his mind was wandering- a restless series of 'what if's and 'whens'. It might've been his unusual intuition then that had him pausing from his spot on the sand, the hair on the back of his neck bristling up in ends. There was a sound in the forest just feet away, a brush of leaves and something that might've been...inside. Warned once by what might lurk inside it's canopies, Roji stepped forward slowly, a hand clutching his chest. "W-who'se there..?" It was getting dark, but he could still manage to see something...
Muhyo had finally found a spot that was quiet enough to sleep in. His eyes were closed, and he was just starting to nod off when he heard the voice. It was a familiar one at that. Blinking, he stood up and peered into the semi-darkness of the beach, making out a figure standing not too far off. It sounded a mixture of nervous and curious, but he couldn't shake the feeling of it being familiar, so he called back. "Hee. Just who are you?"
...! That...laugh! He knew that laugh anywhere; anytime-- it couldn't be mistakened for anything else-- ! "Muhyo?!" Roji stumbled through thick brushes and leaves, and as the growing darkness settled around him, he could barely make out the small figure of Muhyo resting against the tree just a few feet away. "Muhyo!! I finally fou--" A particularly hard, unearthed root managed to catch Roji's foot, and before the poor male could even stumble and flail, he was falling down and landing flat on his face. Which, actually, was just a few inches away from Muhyo's feet. "Mufoo?" He mumbled, tasting dirt.
Was he expecting to find an idiot? Definitely. Was he expecting it to be HIS idiot? Not a chance. Rolling his eyes at the ever-present clumsiness of his assistant, Muhyo knelt down, getting eye level to him (which for once was him leaning down, not standing on things). "Hee hee. Smooth moves, there. Have you been wandering all day?"
Roji sputtered out what (he really hoped not!) looked like dirt and ran a hand through his unruly hair. "Of course not-! I've been here the whole time! O-Of course, I was looking around earlier but I didn't see you or...anything, for that matter. No wonder though; you were in this scary jungle!" There was a clear, evident whine in his voice, but it couldn't quite mask the relief hidden beneath it. He and Muhyo had finally found each other.
He raised an eyebrow, glancing at the forest as it was mentioned. It was hardly something to be scared of. There was basically nothing in it, save a few squirrels and mice. Muhyo stood, brushing off his pants and glancing around. "So that's a yes. And you didn't find anyone else..." He yawned, covering it with his hand. He hadn't slept in quite a while. "They're not responding..."
"A-actually, I managed to talk to some people, and they're willing to help! We just need to wait a little while longer." Roji slumped against the tree next to the executor, glancing up into the canopy where the darkness had begun to sink in. Various noises from birds and insects began to fill the air, but he couldn't say he hadn't been in this situation before. "You really think it's alright to sleep here, Muhyo?" He drew his knees up to his chest and glanced around anxiously.
The smaller one shrugged, sitting down next to Roji. "We'll just have to find out, won't we? Hee." It took him another second to realize what the blonde had said. "Who exactly did you talk to? The last person you 'talked to' didn't turn out exactly as you thought, did it?" The last person Roji had tried to get help from had tried to take possession of him, and Muhyo figured that was enough reason to be suspicious. His assistant had a habit of getting into those situations.
Roji grew quiet, and the sounds of the night beasts and birds mingled on into the night, where the starts began to glimmer just beneath the edges of the leaves above them. "...Bobby was different. He..." Was too late to save. Even if Roji had found a way to save Bobby at the time, his fate was surely sealed long before the mess with the Writ of Passage began. Roji never wanted to admit it, but...at least he knew Bobby was in a better place, now. "...I trust those people, Muhyo. They all sound really nice, and...I feel like we can trust them. After all, we have no idea where we are or what to do....we'd might as well trust someone, right?"
Muhyo scoffed. "Bobby was a pain. That's that." That haunt had been bothering people for years. He was FINALLY gone, and Roji was upset over it? He shook his head. This kid never made sense. "Yeah, didn't you think Bobby sounded nice too? That turned out so well, didn't it? Hee hee." He leaned back against the trunk of the tree, looking up at the stars overhead. "Yuuri's not responding either."
"He's not?" Roji glanced up, still briefly sulking from the memories that slowly resurfaced from Bobby's name. He frowned uncertainly, his gaze drifting in and out from pitch black darkness from small specks of light from the slowly crawling moon. "...I hope everyone else is alright..." What was Nana doing? Youichi? Busujima, Ukemichi, Goyro....were they all wondering? Did they even know? Somehow, the latter made Roji feel a little better. "I'm sure we won't be stuck here for long. Even if we d-- Hey, look! You can see the tree tops!" He pointed up, where the moon's illumination lit up the canopy, leaves glowing with the sway.
Muhyo followed his hand upwards to the light. Great. More light. Wasn't he just trying to get out of the light? He sighed heavily, unconsciously drawing himself closer to Roji. This was getting old fast. It was hot, sticky and now bright. "They're fine." He mumbled, trying not to sound too concerned. He was still focused on why his envoys weren't responding. The contracts were still intact, so why was he receiving no answer? Especially from Yuuri. It was odd, and as much as he hated it, gave him a bit of an uneasy feeling in his stomach.
He could feel Muhyo leaning against him now, and he hid a small smile that lifted his lips ever so slightly. His eyes remained up, and he was rather thankful for the extra lighting. It'd probably make it a little harder to sleep, but at least he could see his hand in front of his face! "Ah....that's good. Besides, we'll probably be home any day now! And you'll be able to see Yuuri and Seven, and we can meet up with Nana..." He yawned quietly, trailing off. "...and have lunch at Biko's..." He rubbed one eye tiredly.
"Keh." Muhyo pulled the tiniest of smiles. The idea of lunch with Seven at Biko's was just...The little Scottish-accented envoy would be off the walls if invited. He'd be jumping around and of course Muhyo would have to spend energy on bring him there, and..He yawned as well, interrupting his own thoughts. "Sure." He said, eyes flitting shut. All the weight of his tiny body was on Roji's side, and though the body heat added to the already humid weather, he was soon out cold against his apprentice.
Roji's heart swelled at Muhyo's agreement. "Yeah! And we can invite Goyro and Ebisu, and eat the raspberry bread Biko makes so well-- and after that, we could all have a small party at the Bureau! That sounds fun, right, Muhyo?" A silence stretched out, and Roji peered curiously at the executor. "...Oh." His smile softened, at the sight of Muhyo's usual scowling face subdued into a look of slumber. He leaned back against the tree and stared up, cheek resting just slightly on top the black head of hair. "I'm sure we'll be alright, Muhyo...I'll make sure of it."
