. SPRING 2016: DONUT SHOP: A DELICIOUS ADVENTURE .
Here is where you sign-up for the Donut Shop: A Delicious Adventure!
. EVENT DESCRIPTION .
Welcome to San Francisco, the land of broccoli pizza, 4 garbage cans you have to pull out daily, and where you can get your lunch and new toilet seat handpicked and delivered to you by the bike messenger same day. You are the new owner of a donut shop in this crazy town and the crazier your donuts, the more likely they are to sell, but that's only if you can manage to make a good enough recipe. Your job today is to, that's right, create donuts. DONUTS FOR DAYS. Gifted with the power of the donut holes, you are to make donuts. Not just any donuts, donuts that will sell. This means that like in real life, glazed donuts are always popular, but your shop calls for a level of San Francisco crazy that must be achieved.
. YOUR SHOP .
SHOP NAME: Before you begin making donuts, you need to choose your shop name. Your shop is going to be a ball of fun and as crazy as can be. Your clientele are as crazy as you have heard. Remember, they're San Franciscans and they're just a ball of nuts. Not the type of nuts that you eat at the movies. The type of nuts that means you're legitimately CRAZY. Therefore, you better have a name that is both intriguing, understandable, and yet as crazy as they are. Some good examples are real life crazy donut shops are Psycho Donuts in San Jose, CA and Voodoo Donuts in Portland, OR. Trust rashiea and I, they're both crazy and delicious.
DONUT RECIPES: First you start off with the original, the boring, the utterly familiar donut, the glazed donut.
SEE THIS. SEE THIS HERE. It's boring. Now it's time to spice up your life donut by adding toppings. ADD THOSE TOPPINGS. The good news is that the donut gods have not only blessed you with the power of the donut hole, but also the power of randomly selecting a heavenly topping for your donut. The only downfall is that you must give up your soul to the devil get a topping completely at random by picking a number 1-8. Yes, really. The gods weren't creative in their approach, but hey, you get free toppings, they get your soul money offerings. Everyone wins, right? Well everyone except your boring glazed donut. Now it's time for you to roll him around in one of the 8 toppings and then eat him sell him for profit.
The toppings are randomly selected from what you have left available as toppings (which are the eight toppings that make up the other 8 donuts that aren't the plain glazed one). When you randomly select a number, the gods have created a generator to randomly shuffle what you have left. From there the number you have provided will be matched to the randomly shuffled list and whatever topping is at that list number is the topping you get. Now it's time to make your donuts and sell them!
The more profit you earn from getting your donut, the more the offerings you can give to the donut gods. The more offerings to the donut gods, the more toppings you can randomly select.
Oh! Did I mention that the glazed donuts replicate? That means that while you're selling your donuts, the house elves you enslaved from another land have been hard at work making you donuts to put your toppings on! So you'll get more donuts even after you decide to keep or sell them. At the end of the event, you get the donut cards you keep (not sell) and turn them in for fantastic things like badges and stuff. Who knows, maybe I'll even gift you a broccoli pizza or a snow globe or something very San Franciscan.
. HOW THIS WORKS .
SIGNING UP:
There are 3 steps to signing up: As soon as you sign up, you will receive a glazed donut card like this one
. I named mine Chuck. You should name yours as well. Is there a reason for it? Nope. Is there ever? Not really. Anyways Chuck looks unhappy. Lets make him happy.
Along with your sign up, you are assigned an exchange card. YOU GET A CARD. YOU GET A CARD. EVERYBODY GETS A CARD! It looks like this:
You will also be able to choose a number to start decorating your donut by choosing a number. Everyone's topping numbers are different and randomly generated. You will then receive your first prettified donut.
MAKING YOUR DONUT: The gods have now given you a bowl of toppings, which you then put on top of your donut. Chuck likes his beautiful new skin btw~
Isn't he pretty? I could just eat him up.
EATING / SELLING YOUR DONUT: You can do one of two things, you can either keep your donut and save it for later or you can sell your donut and make money. Now remember, the whole point is to turn a profit so the donut gods can grant you the power to make all the donuts. Your odds of that are greatly increased when you give them offerings. Let me explain:
If you sell your donut: The crazy guy from upstairs with all the cats has now bought your donut. For this, you will be granted a monetary value listed on your card. You now have money. Money is good. However, if you don't have enough to reach the next god offering level, then you'll just have to make more donuts until you do. If you do reach the next god offering level, then you'll be able to make an offering to the gods that will allow you to do the following:
- Lose money. You just paid the gods right?
- Lose the ability to make a topping of your choice. Instead of having 8 random picks you'll have 7, or 6 if you started out with 7 options, etc.
How does this help you? Well every time you do this, you can narrow down to get fewer toppings that will allow you to narrow down your toppings to the toppings YOU want. You're never forced to pay the gods for these options nor are you forced to give up your topping options if you don't want to. However, if you play enough during the event, you will be able to narrow down your random picks so that you can get those super coveted Exchange for a random normal event card or the even better Exchange for a random retired event card or even better than that Exchange for a CHOICE normal event card!! Crazy!
Saving a donut topping could be a great option if you want to keep that topping in rotation. That's up to you.
Oh, I should mention that every time you either keep, save, or sell a donut, you get another set of glazed donuts to decorate. Don't worry about running out of glazed donuts. The donut elves are working hard to make them.
Also every time that you complete a task such as keeping, saving, or selling a donut, your donut numbers are shuffled. Your #5: Cookie Monster donut could change to be #3 or #7 the next round.
COMPLETING THE EVENT: The event ends at the date at the bottom of this post. Once the event is over, the gods are done with you and you're on your own. However, you're free to keep commenting as many times as you want before then. The only catch is that the gods' secretary, Mango, is super busy with work and she'll only be able to shuffle things when she has time. :P It'll be completely random as to when she signs on, so best be on top of your LJ notifications!
If you sign up on the last day and only get a glazed donut [and maybe a special one], that's your problem. The donut gods wait for no one. But hey, you get 2 donuts for being super late to the game.
