Mmm, *sigh* Gotta love Japanese poetry. Succint, precise, subtle and evocative. It puts all those long-winded, self-indulgent Western poets to shame.

I agree. While I enjoy both, I love its deceptive simplicity! There is room for self indulgence though (and ironically, it's in the self, haha).

It's incredible how freakin' difficult it is to wrestle complex ideas into just a few words. But when it works, it's magic. I don't think any story I've ever read has rivaled Hemingway's six-word masterpiece:

For sale: baby shoes. Never worn.

There are whole novels that can't top that for depth of emotion.
