I am a new fan of Kinnell. Some of his stuff is gritty and effectively expresses the macabre nature of war and human treachery. This is tender and insightful. I love the line, "familiar touch of the long-married,". And the eerieness of "this one whom habit of memory propels to the ground of his making," ...luciously thought provoking.

My favorite Galway Kinnell quote: "Nobody would write poetry if the world seemed perfect."
