1355: White Apples | Donald Hall

"White Apples"
Donald Hall

when my father had been dead a week
I woke
with his voice in my ear
I sat up in bed
and held my breath
and stared at the pale closed door

white apples and the taste of stone

if he called again
I would put on my coat and galoshes

On this day in...
2010: Weekend, no poem
2009: "Sonnet XCIV (If I Die)" by Pablo Neruda and "Without" by Donald Hall
2008: "Where Babies Come From" by Jeffrey McDaniel
2007: Weekend, no poem

If losing me/is the worst thing to happen,/your life is still a good life.
