i like this poem a lot, though it makes me sad.

i swear there's a guy like that on every campus..ours shows up every free speech day and tells us that we are going to hell because going to college is evil, and that every woman on our campus is a slut and a whore because they wear pants. don't let the crazies get you down :/

This poem brought tears to my eyes. It's very powerful. Thank you for sharing it.

Edited to add: re: the man in the plaza of your university, sadly I think misogyny and prejudice still exist in our societies, and sometimes people will use religion to those ends. I wish it didn't happen. That it does, makes me think that it's important that there are also poems like this in the world.

It's a good speech, isn't it?! :^)

I got the icon from thedivinegoat, here. There are different coloured versions which can be snagged there. :^)

Agreed on both topics. It's a beautiful poem, and so very truthful. I wish you didn't have to put poems like this behind a cut, but I understand that there are reasons why you do.

As far as the man on your campus...I do believe that there is a man like him on every college campus in this country. I asked mine a few years ago why he insisted that women were so deserving of hate, when his sacred book claims that God is love, and he informed his usual crowd of people that it was just like a woman to question the mind and methods of God. I felt sad for him, to be living a life full of fear and anger, and I still do.

That poem was beautiful. Maybe it's because my own story jumbled in with the teacher's, with the student's, and the more-grown-up me knew what would happen to the young me, just as I knew what would happen to the teacher's friend and the student. But the forgiveness at the end brought me to tears - for reasons I just tried to type out but realized it's not ready for words.

As for the man 'preaching', I wonder what (he thinks) gives him the authority to speak on what women desire in their hearts? I'd bet that his god is nothing more than a blown-up image of himself, twisted like any self-image, but to the extreme that the words he should know are lies become commandments, in part to justify the parts of himself that another part of him wants to hide. And, of course, far be it from me to point out that if all women desire to satisfy their lustful urges, there are plenty of options that are far less radical than seeking to be raped.

People who preach like that are trying to be attacked or thrown off campus so that they can sue the campus. They do not really believe what they say. Ignore them.
