So, Tumblr

Jun 26, 2014 21:36

Why do some posts have those bubbles on them so you can comment, and some don't, and how do you get them on your posts? How do you comment on a post that doesn't have the bubble? I don't think I understand Tumblr at all. I may have asked this before, but if someone answered, I either missed it or have forgotten. I'm like that. :)

Okay, I did not want to spam your journal by going though old posts, sorry, and I passed two Tumblr questions now without replying, but this one I know! As I wondered that myself and someone told me.

I am on Tumblr only with my action figure pictures and don't want to reblog things (that aren't about miniatures or figures) just to comment. And I realized sometimes when I do a post, that there is a button where I can allow answers, and sometimes it is not there.

Turns out, if you do a post, and end it with a question mark, then you get the option to allow replies (you have to turn it on though). Then there is actually a box asking the reader to write their reply.

When seeing that speech bubble you can still write a reply, without seeing that box and without the person having to end their post with a question mark. But this works only if you follow the person doing the post directly. It does not work on a reblog. As most posts are reblogs, you rarely see it.

And that is in a nutshell why I prefer LJ, as here we can have reall discussions with lots of replies, and others joining in as well. Tumlr, as you pointed out, is just about the reblog but rarely any comments. I guess we should take the likes as feedback. My post about the miniature 3D chess game I made for my Star Trek figures got over 100, that was quite a success. But only one or two actual comments. Which I can't even thank for without reblogging my own post. Which would be stupid, so I don't do it.

I've seen your action figure pics, and think I've commented, but you are persona non grata according to LJ, on my page anyway, so I friended you and followed you on Tumblr. Hope that's okay. Wrote down the question mark thing, so I don't forget. Thanks. I prefer LJ, too. So much less scrolling, scrolling, scrolling. And you can pick up where you left off without scrolling, scrolling, scrolling. (I'm thinking Rawhide theme song here.)

I am WHAT? Sorry, but this is the first time I hear about this. What does it even mean? Can you elaborate please? I have no idea what I might have done that might have offended anyone? When I am here on your page, it tells me that you list me as friend though. What would happen if I friended you back? Would it change things?

And yeah, I think I remember your comments, and we have even six mutual friends, so we certainly have crossed paths before here or there.

I don't keep track on all the Tumblr followers, they are too many, just want to make sure you have the right journal. This is the action figure one where I am most active: http://action-figures-in-action.tumblr.com/

There is a dieastra Tumblr as well for more personal things and I regret now not having it all put into one, as logging into different names is difficult, but it's too late now. Do you have the same name on Tumblr?

No, no. I just meant that your post was marked 'suspicious'. You haven't done anything. Please, friend me back if you want. Can't have too many friends, right, and maybe if you ever reply with another link, LJ won't get into a snit over it.

I am whattywhatwhat on Tumblr. I have very little original content on there, just reposts of things that catch my eye, and some snarky, opinionated comments. Yep, snarky and opinionated, that's me.

Ah right, I was a little worried there ;) And absolutely, we few that are still here have to stick together.

So, just for the heck of it, a random link to test things. This is the 3D chess I mentioned earlier that I made, and I am quite proud of it ;) http://dieastra.livejournal.com/143994.html

Hey, nothing wrong with opiniated! As long as it is not hurtful or offensive. Some people think because the internet is anonymous they can write everything they want to, no matter how hateful.

Wow, that came out great. You are really quite good at this, aren't you? I remember seeing that episode, a long time ago.

Thanks! I try my best. Next on the list: change a Kirk so his shirt is ripped on the shoulder ;) Also I need a stand to hang that thing/plate from the episode "Amok Time" that came with the figures, hammer and all. What good is it if you can't hang it somewher?

Yes. Hanging things is always good. Well, up to a point.
