I didn't understand most of that, but I'm with on the temporal shenanigans. They are the worst.

Are you from the future or the past in this one?

Ah I Am Sorry About My Ranting About Troll Romance

But Yes Shenanigans
Even Though I Am Quite Used To Them
But
I Am In The Future Compared To My Compatriots
Including Someone That I
Was
Close To

Incredibly Incredibly Uncomfortable

It's fine, I know it can get upsetting. It's only confusing to me because I don't know how it works yet! You can explain if you think talking would help.

... Oh. And there was a, um, big change from then to now? I'm the one in the past to everyone else, and I adjusted after a while. I'm sure they will, too.

Well Troll Romance Has Four Quadrants Two For Pity Two For Hate Its Really Complicated

Well Yes But Even Now They Act Like Nothing Happened
Merely Part Of Her Personality I Suppose
I Will Do The Period Thing
'...'
Yes I Hope So

Pity quadrants in romance? You're right, this does sound complicated.

I can see where the period thing is an appropriate response. It must be majorly frustrating if she's pretending it isn't a big deal.

Pity Is Considered A Positive Emotion In Troll Society Humans May Call It A Different Name But
To Us Its The Positive Emotion
The Two Pity Quadrants Are Called The Red Quadrants
The Two For Hate Is Called The Black

Yes
Exactly
That Is My Problem Exactly

What do you guys find so positive about it? I'm starting to think you really do need a primer.

How could she not... get that? Plus, timeline stuff is-- is huge. You can't take that lightly, or you risk tearing the fabric of the universe apart. That's not even an exaggeration.

Well You See Pity Is Positive As It
Precludes That You Can Start Caring About Someone If You See Their Situation And Their Faults
You Can Start To Understand And Forgive And Defend All Those Sort Of Things Its Rather Basic
Er
I Suppose Humans Go About It Differently I Suppose
Maybe If I Give An Example

For Example In My Rainbow Drinker Novels The Most Common Storyline Is That The Rainbow Drinker And The Normal Troll Become Matesprits
The Rainbow Drinker Sees The Normal And Pities Them For Being Vulnerable And Decides To Protect Them
The Normal Troll Sees The Rainbow Drinker And Pities Them For Being So Withdrawn From Normal Society
Even Though It May Hurt Them They Stay And Help Sustain Them Because Of That Pity

That sounds... a little familiar. [To Buffy and Angel, she means, but Willow thinks that topic is still in the awkward do-not-mention land, so she doesn't say that directly.] Except for humans it's not about feeling sorry for each other, it's about appreciating the qualities that they have. It's about positive feelings, not negative.

Do trolls really not have anything like that? And what are rainbow drinkers?

Thats What Pity Means To Us In Essence
Its Not Just About Feeling Sorry Yes It Starts Out At That Level But Troll Pyschology Isnt Something Im Very Good At

Rainbow Drinkers Are What Humans Call
Vampires
I Am Well Versed In Rainbow Drinker Lore And Unfortunately Thats Where Most Of My Troll Romantic Knowledge Comes From

Sorry, I don't mean to make you go on about things you aren't interested in. It's just all kinda... funky, to me.

Like that. Um. Why do you have romantic knowledge of vampires? Most of them aren't very romantic on my world, they're more the maim and kill type.

Are they not... real, where you are?

The Undead Is Certainly Real Enough On Alternia
But More Of The Rotting Flesh Kind Than The Blood Drinking Kind
So Rather I Dont Know Ive Never Met One Before

Wait
Youve
Youve Seen Vampires

Rotting flesh k-- oh, you mean zombies. We've had a couple instances of that, but vamps are much more common. I've not only seen them, I've seen them regularly, and killed a fair few. Like I said, most of them here are not so romantic.

Spike definitely is, though, and he's on the community. You could probably talk to him if you're so interested. But he's not real big on groupies, I have to warn you.

Oh Well Yes Yes I Will Have To Talk To This Spike Vampire

However I Doubt I Will Want To Fill A Quadrant With Him If Thats What Groupie Means
I Am
Uninterested
In That Sort Of Er
Well Um
Its Just Exciting
